Fender FSR question

Definitely at least 4 years old. Check out this thread from 2008 where a guy got one...

Nothing wrong with the bass itself, but I think it should be called a Guitar Center exclusive more than a FSR, which are usually limited edition.

EDIT: It's probably about 8 years old... See the post below from Mind Eroded. They discontinued the P version though... Only the Jazz remains. It has the old MIM headstock.

I bought one of these in GC in 2004. It is still my 'main bass'. I made some mods over the years(swapped pickups) however there was nothing 'wrong' with the stock ones. these are great basses, mine sports some incredibly nice matched woodgrain...it sounds, plays and feels like a jazz bass should and I have even sold MIA jazzes in the past to keep this one.

On a side note, im not sure if this is still an issue with these basses, but in my experience some of the early models(including mine) had a pretty substantial neck pocket gap on the upper horn side. However, this is purely a cosmetic issue and If you are seriously looking to pick one of these up, I would urge you to handpick a model in person(if possible) rather than ordering sight unseen(since this is a natural finish, woodgrain varies from model to model, and I have seen some pretty mismatched ones over the years)

Yeah, there's a bunch of us that got a "limited edition" FSR Hot Rod Jazz that's MIA - they came with a nitro finish on the body and neck, white, with matching headstock, tort PG, SCN pups, S1 switch, BAII bridge, and a brown tolex "vintage" hardshell case from G&G cases:

Hey Tex...WOW! I am still very surprised that any pawn shop in the Western world would sell any Fender for that price. I saw your FSR Jazz in another thread, very nice!!! I still think the remaining ones are worth the 450-500 at MF/GC, though. :D

Thanks TAK. This isn't even my best pawnshop score. Here in South Tx., people GIVE basses away. They have no loyalty to them and abandon them like mangy dogs. In the last 5 yrs. I've scored 5 pretty killer deals. Here's the order in which they were purchased.

The 1st 3 purchased as same pawnshop:

1) '74 Fender S.B. Jazz Bass for $ 64.64
2) '79 Fender Black P-Bass for $ 180
3) '79 Fender Butterscotch P-Bass w/ OHSC for $ 260
4) '89 Fender Metallic Silver "Longhorn" Jazz Bass w/ OHSC for $315
5) '66 Fender Black P-Bass w/ OHSC for $ 140 (this was just recently )

I bet that '79 Fender Butterscotch P-Bass is a beautiful bass.

Yeah, I remember all the butt-hurt and unjustified flak you got in that '66 Precision-related thread! Bryan R. Tyler (mod) did a good job putting the kibosh on all the negativity. Good thread that was!
