Fender FSR Roasted '58 P

There were no 58 P basses with black guards.

Unless gold ano turns black when it's "roasted". :eyebrow:

LOL! :roflmao::thumbsup:

Fender plays pretty loose with their model designations. The only thing conforming to '58 specs here
are the neck profile (kinda), and the tug bar.

The Fender Custom Shop has a line of "post modern" basses, a designation which gives them full license to mix n match different
parts in a way that totally scuttles the notion of identifying the specs by the year referenced in the particular model's name. Perhaps when designing "post moderns" the Custom Shop throws BOTH names and parts in the air?

To be honest it's a MIA version of the finish of the so-called MIJ walnut '62 reissue jazz basses which have been manufactured since long time, although very beautiful ... the body is clearly painted or stained ash ... the neck is probably fully roasted maple ... beautiful however ... I won't go with golden hardware, it will waste the concept of a dark bass IMO (same as in the case of the above MIJ instrument) ...

The pix at this site are a lot lighter. I like it. Would like to play one to see what impact the roasting has.
Go ahead on Fender.

Interesting terminology in their description: Truss Rod Vintage-Style "Butt Adjust"
Subliminal commentary regarding those who will end up with one of these? Will you start getting check-up notices from the family proctologist? I'm just sayin' . . . :rolleyes:

Wow, shows you what good lighting will do. That looks much better than the previous picture. I'd put on a tort guard and dump the ashtray & bell. I'd have liked to seen them go darker with the neck and do lighter colored fret markers like the anniversary Stingray 5.

Thanks for finding that link. Those photos give the bass a whole different vibe. Coloring from them also look similar to Warmoth's unfinished roasted swamp ash bodies, which is what I would expect this one to look like in person. Black anodized pickguard is a nice touch.

It is such an aberration from Fender that it has piqued my interest.
