Fender FSR Roasted '58 P

I think it could have been cool to introduce this bass using a 70’s template with the option of an A or B neck, a three ply black guard, and a 70’s voiced P bass pickup.

Fender offers a 74 jazz in their AVRI series. Why not a P? I think this 73 P has a classic tone:

Mmm, a couple of super light, seven pounders.

Like the striped grain on the one on the left.

Really, really want to play one of these!

My only peeve is the mounted covers.

I picked up one of these basses, I absolutely love it. Extremely well balanced, nice weight, love the natural roasted look, they added a foam mute at the bridge under the cover, pickups sound really good, the neck feels great if you like a C-Shape 7.25 radius 1.73" nut width. The fretboard edges are nicely dressed and rounded.

I fell in love with this bass as soon as I picked it up at the music store. It felt like something i've been playing for years and years. Sorry for the rant, just really happy with this.

I picked up one of these at my local shop in west Toronto. Really nice weight at <8 lbs. I'm not a maple neck guy typically but the "roasting" of the neck and body really appealed to me. It also played so well...in the store. Somehow I didn't notice (in the store) that there were quite a few "dead" spots on the g string. Home for a few days with it and thinking "this is really an issue". Came back to this thread and noticed the post about the foam-dampeners glued to the underside of the bridge cover. Of course!! Oh the shame.

I just built an all roasted 51'ish P'ish bass. Body and neck are roasted (Warmoth wood); body is also chambered. 51 style pickup, no pickguard, all aluminum hardware. Nothing is any heavier than it has to be.

6.71 pounds (balances well), and resonant like you wouldn't believe.
