Fender Fullerton Reissue club

Most of it looks correct to me. The sunburst, contours and router bump all match a fullerton reissue and the neck date and pots are correct. The pickguard was swapped, the original case is not included, the covers are not there and there is pretty severe wear on the back. With that in mind I think you paid a premium ($1700 would have been my max but I would have tried for less) but I don't think you grossly overpaid or anything. Sunbursts seem to max out at $1900-2000 when they are in really good to mint condition with the original case. It's weird that they say it was never played but it has that much wear on the back and I get nervous seeing some swapped parts because other things could have been changed too but on a whole that one looks OK.

I have bought lots of stuff from Reverb and on a whole it's been good experiences.

I have never played with covers on my Fenders and I don't plan on ever selling it so no big deal.

The P/Gs used in the Fullertoms are unique, and fairly rare or impossible to find as used parts.

They are red/orange with a very close and busy pattern tha looks liked sliced pepperoni, hence their nickname.

OK (Gulp) - I just placed an order for this baby. Did a bit of research and it really looks like the real deal.

The only thing not original is the case and the seller is the studio musician Corky James!

He has a perfect seller rating, is a fellow musician and Reverb has a protection plan so I went for it.

Has anyone else bought gear off of Reverb? This is my first.

I have a 1966 P, but I am hoping this will be my live P.

I Have bought and sold plenty of gear off Reverb and its better than ebay IMO. The bass is sweet! Only thing that don't look original to me is the pickguard...but I could be wrong. Looks darker more like the Corona reissue pickguards but could just be the lighting when pic was taken. The fullertons had the peperoni guards...was a brighter more vibrant red than the Corona reissues. Everything else looks good to me. Congrats on that beauty!

So this is going to be the P for my original country alt band and it will be heard regularly - loud and proud

That style of guard ended up on the reissues up til the early 90's, so they're on some corona reissues as well

Well, I haven't bought a "new" bass in a while and I have tours with two different bands coming up.

Because the genres of these bands are an alt-country thing and then a Brit-pop meets Petty kind of vibe, I didn't want to use boutiques.

I also didn't want to bring the vintage girls on the road.

So as you can attest to JMac, I bought two early 80's Fenders and I think that will work nicely for both projects.

I'm using an FBass VF5 for the alt country band as well, and I feel OK about bringing her along for the ride.

I've been doing fairly well financially and I don't have a wife or kids, so I figured I would treat myself while I could.

I am SO grateful to have met you guys and have your advice to steer me in the right direction - Thanks for all of your information!

BTW - I picked up all three of my Lulls this morning and I am really thinking of selling at least two of them.

I'm hoping that feeling will pass?

As an aside, I recently brought all of my basses into the studio while recording with one of these bands and I let them decide which bass they wanted me to use.

While setting up the amp/cabs for takes, I played all of them and they listened in the CR not knowing which one I was playing.

'66 P was the unanimous choice - who knew?

Congrats for buying the Fullerton.
I own a '66 P too and 4 Fullertons over the years.
You will notice the deeper (like an real pre-cbs) body contour. Your 66 already got the less (CBS) contours. Also the Fullerton neck is a bit thinner (front to back). The 66 is more baseball bat.

so as to this whole fullerton basses having more accurate contours....i gotta disagree. ime, theyre too deep. none of the pre cbs basses i own/owned/or have played have had contours this thin. the necks are also thinner than actual pre cbs basses. the corona 62 reissue jazzes ive owned have felt more like my slab 62

Seriously ! I love that '66 bass, but sometimes it feels like I'm playing a Louisville slugger!

The only time it feels comfortable is when I play it right after putting a 5'er down.

Heck, I paid 70 bucks for a custom p/g for a Lull so an extra 30 is worth it.

They sell high because they don't pop up very often. I see the jazz pickguards more than the precisions but they do show up every once and awhile on eBay. The last one was about 3 months ago and the seller had it listed for $350 OBO. No idea what it actually sold for but it was over $100.
