Fender Fullerton Reissue club

Thanks for posting the pic of the back of the body. Looks like it has the deep tummy cut along with the router bump so it appears that the body is a genuine Fullerton vintage reissue. The neck where the rosewood meets the maple at the headstock also points to it being a Fullerton reissue.

I would think you'd be able to tell if the fiesta red is the original finish once you receive it and can pull it apart a bit. From what I've read, they did do some oversprays at the factory for colors like fiesta red so this story matches up.

I hope it plays well.

These Fullertons usually play really well. I just pulled my 1983 '62 P out of its case to compare the back body dimensions to your photo and have been playing it for a bit. It's been a while since I've played it and it is definitely a treat to play. As good or better than the Fender Custom Shop basses I've had.

Yes, do post some more pics. Looks good, from what I can tell. Body stamp is from 1983, do you know what the neck date is?

The white guard should be repairable. It will look better on it.

I actually own a real Fullerton “pepperoni” tort guard. I can always put that on too . I like both the white and tort.

it will never be as new, so i suggest: use a copper foil shielding tape backing to secure the 2 bits together. install and rock.

or maybe you can find an old-style backing shield?

Finally got this beauty dialed in. I wasn’t able to salvage the original white guard. But, I did have a Fullerton pepperoni guard I put on and it looks perfect to me. Cleaned up the body and had the frets leveled and polished. Also, put a new set of TI flats on. You can definitely see the sunburst under the red. Worn in perfect. Plays like butter. Super slim neck front to back. Really great bass. Thanks all for the info. Cheers! Let me know if you dig it!

So I bought this beauty the other day. I've been looking for a 50's reissue P-bass with maple neck for a while and this showed up. It's from 83. It's been played a LOT but everything is original and working. I have 14 days to try it out. It feels and sounds pretty amazing.

The only thing is it has some slight buzz a few places (A string above 15th fret G string 4th fret. Nothing that interferes with the tone through an amp and its only if you dig in a little. i've had it checked two different places and they say the neck is straight and don't suffer any issues. It's set up with what i would say medium action. I dont think it can go lower without the buzzing becoming an issue. I guess it could benefit from som light fret work. I paid what would be similliar to 2800GBP. Would you keep it if it was you. Saying you love the feel and sound of the bass? I dont know if it's me overfocusing on it and becoming in doubt because I have the possibility to return it.. Do you have perfect playing basses with super low action and no issues at all?

I am a little out of touch with prices these days but I think thats fairly high for that condition. It IS a rarer color but for top dollar I would want a great player.

I have an '83, '62 RI and the action is absurdly low and I'm using TI flats on it. There can be some buzz on higher frets and when I REALLY dig in, but its pretty good. But to get the neck there I had to add backwards pressure and an extra washer to the trussrod. But, its as stable as can be right now.

If the neck is healthy, including no ski-slope on the highest area of the fingerboard, then there is no reason it can’t be made perfect, provided you are open to fret leveling, provided there is plenty of fret left to do so. Then, a thoughtful and patient setup. Find a great and well known luthier in your area. The color is fantastic, so I would invest the little extra to do this work. Perhaps the seller will kick back 200 gbp to help get it done. Good luck.
