Fender Fullerton Reissue club

V011556 Bass is in route. Body is Jan 24 83. Don't know about pots/pups/wiring yet but told it's original. Just happy to find what seems to be a player.
Not a Fullerton. Yup, the headstock decal position is the 1st and most obvious clue, and the details are Corona build. Its more likely an '88.

So I just stomped across this 1980´s Jazz bass on Vintage and rare. I know it's not a Fullerton but can any of the nerds here tell me what the F**K was going on at fender in 1980 since the seller is asking this price? To my knowledge it's probably one of the worst years in fender history. I guess the color is rare but c'mon is this for real?

If you like the color, why not pick up one of the new reissues. They're about $1299 street plus most of them are running in the low 8 lbs.

No not interested in the bass.. I was just curious about the asking price. I have a hard time understanding why anyone would price a 80's bass in the same league as a refinished 60s. Is it just because of the color? That's just insane if the case. I know custom colors in general gets the prices up on vintage instruments, but even if this was a real fullerton it seems crazy to me.
People ask crazy prices sometimes. It's like they dont want to sell it. Roll your eyes and move on.
if one scrolls down to see the asking prices on some of their other instruments offered for sale, a pattern begins to emerge that answers your question...they're fishing ~
Yeah, not sure. There are asking prices and then a price the bass actually moves. Guitar Broker is pricey IMHO.
imho, of course, but '80 was when cbs started putting more emphasis on a quality fender product as they were preparing to sell the company. the mojo returned with the hiring of dan smith et. al. in 1981, and the '82 instruments reflect this turnaround. there are lots of terrific '82 fenders around ~
The smith and fullerton era is 82-85. as far as i've read. When they came to fender in 81 they say it was a total shitshow from a quality viewpoint, producing over 800 instruments a day with a 98% yield. In other words there was no quality control and it was a matter of quantity over quality. So I don't think 1980 was a good year in any way for Fender.
Which is why in '83 the Fullertons stood out to those of us who played them in the store. I bought a Yamaha BB1200s because Fender didn't interest me in the least. But the Fullerton was a freak to me. Where did these come from I ask? Me and the salesman commented what a cool bass it was and how odd it seemed to be so good. I put it back because I didn't like the Orange at the time.

Thats a cool story! Was orange a colour?I read somewhere that Gilmour was on tour and needed a new guitar. They went in a store and ender up buying a whole batch of ri strats because they where so good. His red -and i think Also the Black- strats are both 83 fullertons!
What I called Orange back in the day turns out to be Feista Red. I would kill for that bass now days. Duh.
I bought a near mint Fiesta Red 1983 '57 reissue for $300 back in 1985. Wish I still had that one!
