Fender Japan is gone :(

Didn't mean to confuse you with the comment about the speaker cab impedance.

The mention of impedance was simply that whatever the ohmage is on that speaker cab, both amps need to be set to whatever that is. 2,4,8 ?? The 100t has an impedance switch on it to match the amp with the cab. You are saying that your Bandmaster doesn't? It should be an easy thing to look up. And you don't know what the ohm rating is on your current custom cab? You have TWO 12s in there? I'd say 4 ohms is most likely.

But if the rating is different from the 410, the amp would also need to have its speaker setting changed in addition to the A/B switch being flipped.

And terms of wattage... 40 watts from a TUBE amp is HUGE! TUBE watts are not equal in volume to solid state watts. My VOX AC30 is 30 watts, and that thing is LOUD!! Hell! My AC15 is 15 watts and that thing can move pictures on the wall if I crank it up. Way too loud for playing in a normal size sitting room or music room. So I really wouldn't concern yourself with the Bandmaster having enough power to drive any NEO cab Fender makes. :)

The fact that you are skeptical about the 100t and 410 cab being viable for serious guitar amplification makes me really wish I could be in the same room with you the first time you run your Jazzmaster through your "100t/410 Neo Bass Rig"!! lol!

You should Google Fender Bassman as a guitar amp. It's actually used by a lot more well known players than you think. The 100t is kind of the Creme del a Creme of the Bassman lineage, so it would be that much more impressive for guitar applications than its ancestors.

Anyway... Just passing through here right now, so not enough time to comment further on your recent reply...

Let me just say that I think having a "aesthetically matching" FENDER cab to go with your Bandmaster and hopefully eventually a Bassman 100t, would be the Cherry on Top for what I believe would be an awesome sounding TUBE RIG for both your bass AND guitar collection. One of the few instances where one size DOES fit all! :D (With OBVIOUS tone control changes to the pre-amp for one or the other of course!)

OK, I just looked it up and my Bandmaster is at 4 Ohm impedance output. No switches for 4 versus 8 Ohms. Just the two output plugs. The DIY guitar cabinet is a single 12” speaker at 4 Ohms. The 410 Neo is 8 Ohms. My understanding is that the Bandmaster should be fine to run only one 8 Ohm cabinet. A little volume will be lost versus an otherwise similar 4 Ohm cabinet. I have found several people playing 8 Ohm guitar cabinets of various sorts with Bandmasters. And if all of that is true, just an A/B switch between my 4 Ohm guitar cabinet and the 8 Ohm bass cabinet should work. Just don’t run them together. And turn the amp off when switching. Do I have that right?

Yeah, 40 tube Watts is a lot out of the Bandmaster and a single 12”. When the family is gone and I’m playing guitar, I can’t turn the amp volume up past 3.5 before it’s too loud for me. The floor can shake a little. It’s kind of fun, actually. :) I know that the blackface Bassman is used for guitars a lot these days. I think that it might be a similar design to my blackface Bandmaster but with an extra 10 W and no tremolo.

Sure, come on over when I get the new gear set up. :) Beer is on me. I have never played a guitar through a 4x10 anything, so I don’t really know what that sounds like. But I am quite happy with my current setup for guitar. I have found my clean sound. A Bandmaster + the 410 or the 100t + 410 could be a lot of fun for guitar. :)

I have never played bass through a tube amp. I can imagine what it sounds like, but I don’t really know. Heck, maybe a Bandmaster into the 410 Neo would be so loud at home that I would not get any tube saturation. It certainly sounds like something fun to try.

For aesthetics, the blonde and oxblood version of the 410 looks pretty in the pictures, on its own. But I’d have to go black and silver to match the Bandmaster. I do have a classic amp there and I must pay heed to the greatness. :)

When I bought my rig, they didn't have those other vintage colors available yet, but even if they did, I would have gone for the "Classic" Fender Black and Silver! As you say, it goes with a lot more of their amp products, so if you end up scoring another vintage amp down the road for fun, your 410 will be the right color scheme! :)

Never played bass through a tube amp eh? Hee heeee... Eeeeexcellent! (In my Mr. Burn's voice). Boy Jon! Are you in for a treat when you do! The lower register of a bass guitar will get you that nice, warm, silky tube saturation much faster and at lower volumes than a guitar will at the same settings. And I'm not talking about flat out distortion here... The effect is subtle and to the average listener would appear to be clean. Its the complex stuff going on within the preamp and power amp that is delivering that lovely tone than only an amp like the 100t can achieve! :)

I believe a lot of what I like about the 100t even over something very closely related like the Bassman 300, is the awesomness of the 6L6 power tube! I have always preferred amps that use the 6L6 in their power stage as opposed to the 6550. Just something about the design that gives me a final result that must be heard to be understood. Now put in the KING of the 6L6 line (The GE 6L6 GC) and you just moved up another level!

Now don't get me wrong! I LOVE a good 6550 power tube! In fact my Leslie 122 rotary speaker that I run with my Hammond B-3 uses 6550s and I can't imagine it sounding any better! Especially when I put the volume pedal to the metal on the Hammond and blast out some Deep Purple "Lazy", or "Space Truckin" and YeeHaw! What a rush!

But anyway...

I think you are heading down the right track now with the amp buying decisions.. Pick up the 410 Neo ASAP and hitch it to your Bandmaster running at 8 ohms. 20 watts is still plenty for home use and even a jam session with live drums. Then, when you are ready to take the plunge, pick up that Bassman 100t and prepare for BLAST OFF! :D

I sure hope you manage to make that purchase while you are still hanging around on TB! I would LOVE to hear what you think the first session you use it on!

And if we lived closer to each other, I would definitely take you up on that beer offer! Maybe even a jam session! I'm a drummer too, and would be happy to be the other half of the Rhythm section for the night! :)

Okay...I think I am done with my "Slightly Off Topic" commentary. ;)

How about we continue the Fender Japan is Gone topic with YOUR NEXT Fender Japan purchase? Purchase or Wish List... Either one.

As I mentioned above... My next MIJ Fender is going to be the JB66-VWH! IF! I can find one!

Yeah, that white bass is cool looking. I don’t recall ever seeing a Fender anything that was white with a matching headstock. I like it. :)

Squier did for a while. The Deluxe Active Jazz used to have an Arctic White body & headstock. It was eventually phased out, but the black/black and sunburst/natural are still being produced.

I'm mobile right now, but I'll post a pic when I'm back home.

Yeah, the classic Fender look of black and silver is appealing. The blackface amps have such a special sound that I’d have to go with that look. As you say, maybe it’s those 6L6’s, which I gather that my Bandmaster also uses. The silky saturation that you describe sounds great and I’d love to get it. I never can play my guitar loud enough to get it. But the amp has an amazing clean sound so that’s OK by me. The saturation might happen with that amp and a bass. We’ll see.

I’m not quite ready to order the cabinet yet. I will be away for much of next week on a work trip. And I happen to know a bass player who will be on the same trip. Looking forward to chatting about basses with him. If no new ideas come up, maybe I’ll order a 410 Neo when I get back. I’m the type of guy that needs to mull over such things for a while, to make sure it’s the best route for the long run.

I’ll definitely report back on what I get and how it all sounds. It’s the least that I can do for all the help I get here, from you and others. Plus it could be of benefit to future people wondering about such things. I’m hoping to have the reaction that you have in mind, with Mr. Burns over my shoulder. ;)

I’m not a good enough player yet to be accompanied by a drummer. Some day, I hope. But I am pretty good at buying beer. ;) Thanks again for all the help!

johan was able to find me a smart size jazz in white and it got here in less than a week!

I’m happy for you. Or, rather, I will be as soon as you feed us some photos. What are you thinking with a post like that?! ;)

OK, I’ll play along... There is a decent chance that I will be in Japan in the winter for work. If I go, I’d like to pick up a Precision bass of some sort. Ideally, something as nice as my VSP Jazz. Or heck, even a "standard" Japan P bass. New would be preferable to used. But the way things are going, there may be no new stock come the winter. Maybe I could find a good used one. So we’ll see.

That said, my VSP Jazz is so nice that my desire to get another bass is a lot less now than it used to be. But the idea of a Jazz with rounds complemented by a P with flats is appealing for some odd reason. :)

I'd like that 70s jazz bass in cherry sunburst with a maple board, but I wonder if they have '70s spacing or '60s spacing. If it is '70s, it may be worth the extra money beyond a Geddy Lee jazz.

There's one on Reverb right now. It's $1200 shipped!

I found one listed on there, but this guy is asking WAY MORE than $1200.00 shipped. Perhaps there are TWO of these up there now? This seller is using the WRONG model number/name to describe the bass, so it was not coming up in any searches for a "Fender Japan JB66 or a Fender Japan JB66-WVH, OR a JB66-WVH".

If these sellers are using the WRONG product name/ID, no wonder none of the serious buyers are finding them! lol!

This one has 18 watchers and 3 offers so far, and a listing age of 8 months! :help:

Probably doesn't help that this guy's long winded and rather snotty/arrogant commentary in the description paints this seller as a rather obnoxious DOUCHE!

:bored: :rollno:

lol!

Here it is! I love the high contrast between all that white and the ultra-black of the ebonol fretboard.

I think it sounds great.

Outstanding! WOW I guess these are REAL CLOSE in size to the mini P Bass as some around here have mentioned! Never seen them side by side until your photo, and they are really close! I guess the mini P is ¾ scale too?

I'm really happy for you that you were able to score a 62SS in the end! I'm thinking of starting a JB62SS owners club here with another TB member just as soon as his BLACK one arrives from Ishibashi! Should be very soon now, so if you are interested, let me know and I can send you a PM when I have posted the first JB62SS Owner's Club post in this new Club thread!

Not sure how many of us there will actually be on TB, but that will be part of the fun! Seeing how many JB62SS owners are actually out there and active on TB! :D
