fender japan

I'm thinking of pulling the trigger on a mij P-bass to compliment my MIM J. I was trying to save up for an all natural 70's with maple neck and black pickguard, but it's really hard and expensive to get them in lefty and i'm tired of saving. So what is tghe quality like on MIJs. Are the neck's good? how about sound wise. Quality of construction. the Price is right but I want a good bass for my cash. I'm looking at the vintage white. I want to beat it up a little though. Invalid Link Removed

I've got an '80s jazz bass special (currently with a '79 P fretless neck on it). I really like the stock pickups. It looks like they do the serial numbers similarly as the US basses, mines an E6_ _ _ (eight six I'd guess).

My favourite bass I own is a MIJ fretless jazz. No problems at all with it, it is a well put together insturment. Even though it isn't a P bass I own, I think that the quality of the japanese fenders is pretty consistent. (unlike some of the MIMs)

Also I think there are some things about the appearance of MIJ's that make it unique too. For instance, the fretboard on mine appears to be just plain rosewood (no markers) with a black body and a w/b/w pickguard. I have never seen the particular fretboard I have on any fretless jazz bass other than another japanese. Mabey i'm wrong and they offer this neck on the others but i'm pretty sure it is exclusive to the japanese models, which I don't mind, because in my opinion it is the most beatiful fretless neck i've seen on a j bass. I'm not a big fan of the ones with fret markers that interfere with the beatiful look of the plain wood. It gives it a nice old style in my opinion. I would highly suggest a japanese made fender. It's worth it quality wise.

I'm attaching a picture of the only other one like mine i've seen. This one is exactly like mine but it has white strings and mine are black, but that is merely a cosmetic difference.

I owned one exactly like that as well. Really well made, comfortable neck, good mwah factor. I thought the pickups could use more ooomph, but that would have been an easy issue to deal with. Fender Japan A-OK.

Yeah, I love it, it's a great bass! In a thread I was asking about possible upgrades for it and I brought up pickups, so if you have a suggestion post it there, I would like slightly more oomph I suppose, but really I just love playing it fingerstyle, it's very beatiful sounding with the pickups how they are now too, definitley good mwah. Everything is put together with very high quality, mine looks brand new still even though there is 1 minor buckle scratch...... oh well :crying: I'm not sure how to tell what year mine is but it's great and keeps tune excelently . I give it many thumbs up :bassist: I'm also deeply in love with the look of my bass, I grow to like it more and more everyday! The fretboard is l33t b4d4ssn3ss! It will hold up forever if you play it with care!

I wonder what wood my bass is made from?

Just bought a natural ash/maple P-bass from Ishibashi a few weeks ago and it is a wonderful bass....

I've done my best since I took these pictures to knock some of the gloss of the body and treat all the chrome with muriatic acid to give it a little more of that 70's vibe but the craftmanship on the bass itself it great, especially the neck...

Bought it from Ishibashi and arrived three days later! Great deal!
