Depends; some of us are really into the "distressed" or "roadworn" vibe. Some people like it when the white goes to yelllow (I am not one of those people). And as they say, it's only original once.
But if you're going for a complete restoration it makes sense. And if it's done right it shouldn't be a issue anyway.
I personally like the aged/yellowed white. (When it's not an overkill.) Brand new looking pearl white disgusts me.. Don't know why...
Less valuable than an all original in good shape? Yes, but not necessarily ruined. Depending on what condition it was in before the repaint, it might up the value.
The one I should be picking up in January has a pretty decent neck finish. I mean there is a chip here and there, but it's not something I want to refurbish per say. You do have me thinking about possibly if I do refinish the body, replacing the original hardware with new hardware. Of course I would keep all the original hardware.
Great choice I bought a set of these for my JBS that came to me missing the entire jazz pickup. They sound great.

One's missing an F cap.
What surprises me is it looks factory new after all these years. Even the hardware isn't pitted like most do.
I bought this bass from the original owners wife. It was always case kept. OHSC and case candy was included.
Only issue was the missing F cap. But I already picked up a clean complete knob just didnt install before pics. Other than that,,,,,perfectly splendid.

Any suggestions on re-doing the white paint for the numbers on the knobs? I was thinking about dry brushing with model paint.
It has occurred to me that somebody who has those F knobs could probably make some money by making reproductions... (Not sure how FMIC would feel about it, but they'd have to find out first)
3d printing would be awesome. Feder has reissued the HM Strat which has the same knobs. I've contacted Fender if they selling the knobs as replacement parts but they said no. Probably in the Future.
I think its a great idea! I think someone is doing it with the Peavey lightening knobs, but the originals certainly don't cost this much! Holy moly! My JBS is missing 2 of the F caps!

Yea, I was about to look around locally for 3d scanning services. Certainly would be cheaper to scan it than model it. I was stupid enough to sell a set from one of my JBS. Now I'd needtwo sets.
