I have been offered a trade for my 2001 Fender Jazz Deluxe active MIM w/ badass II and HSC. Guy has a 2001 EBMM Sterling he wants to trade straight up. At this point this is in an effort to trade up for better resale or trade value. Would like to hear what your thoughts are.

Fender Jazz Deluxe MIM for EBMM Sterling?

for guitars in comparable condition, i would do that in a heartbeat..
to me, your deluxe is simply one of the two hundred JB models produced over time and a MIM (and modified) JB to me would seem to have no collectable value, simply its value as an instrument (which is not a bad thing, just an opinion on future resale)..
i would say that the MIA EBMM is a significantly more desirable item... (not trying to offend anyone here..never said its a better bass, just more desirable )

Having played and owned several of both, I can offer a little: on the used market, an MIA Sterling is worth probably close to twice as much money - so I'd be leary of it being some sort of scam/stolen/defective, etc...
Playing-wise, they both have similar shaped necks, although the Sterling has more frets, a much smaller body, and will probably be a little lighter... Tone-wise, the Fender will have a little more natural mid presence than the Sterling - they both have alot of EQ range capability... As long as it's not a dud or trashed, the Sterling may be a better player, and a little better made - a good Fender is indeed a well made instrument, whereas EBMM consistantly makes good instruments...
