I assume you have actually played a 4003? I love Rics, but if you are used to the ergonmics of a Jazz, the lack of any such concessions to player comfort on a Ric may come as a surprise. No guarentee either way, some people have no trouble at all, some get aggravated by the sharp edges, particularly at the rear bout under your elbow. They usually balance pretty well, better than most jazz basses anyway. Most of those concerns are moot on the 4003S models, which have rounded body edges. Like others have noted, be prepared for some serious sticker shock, and finding one in stock you can play in person before buying may be nearly impossible. Rics are not a "one trick pony", but unless you really want that classic Ric clank and grind that no other bass can really duplicate, be aware you have to jump through some hoops. Good luck with it. Nice Jazz, any way you can keep it and get both? That would be a killer combo.
