Fender Jazz Pawn shop appraisal

Hello forum, dear Fender nerds,

Kindly asking for help: The neck butt does not have any number printed, nor a truss rod screw (it can be found on the head). From what I’ve read so far here on the forum, I would think 1974-ish !?? But I might be wrong of course..

Can you please help out identifying, and recommend what to watch out for?

Ultimatelly, I’ll have the ear decide, but would love to go into bargaining with some basic knowledge and preparation (e.g. knobs not originals, plate cover does not match wit the era or whatdoyahave..). Give it to me.

I’d lean towards its fake, even with the limited pictures.

The amalgam of features here would put it 71-73ish, except the bullet truss rod. I don’t think I’ve ever seen a 70s J have both black blocks/binding and a three bolt/bullet truss rod. I haven’t seen every fender ever, but this is a red flag to me.

The pickup sticking out from under the bridge cover is common with 60s position, by the time the 3 bolt necks arrive in late 73 the bridge pickup should be in 70s position. The bridge pickup should center over the tone control and the ears would be between the tone and volume, the pickup here looks to be closer to the volume control and in line with 60s position.

The picture quality is terrible but the hardware on the headstock looks wrong. Obviously the knobs and pickguard too but those could have been swapped. The tug bar is misaligned, but given the swapped pickguard you could assume it was moved.

But yeah, given these pictures I’d say fake until proven otherwise.

Yes, those turners and string retainer don’t look right.

$150-$175 If it sounds and feels good, maybe $200 if it’s exceptional for a parts bass.

Reason, it’s a lie if is being represented as a Fender bass

Bullet truss rods where used from 74-82. How many bolts is the neck?
Also, that type of knob is not stock for a 70's Jazz. And the gold glitter trim on the logo looks brand new compared to the level of patina on the headstock.

The neck logo is definitely a 70's "TV logo", but the knobs and p/u position are 60s.
Even if everything on it is Fender, it's a Frankenfender.

The TV logo started in 1968, plenty of basses with the new logos and 60s spacing. Not that it changes my view on the legitimacy of this one, but the two features aren’t mutually exclusive.
