fender jazz vs fender precession

Hi there,
this may be a be a noobish question and if so please excuse me, but can someone tell me what the main difference between jazz and precission basses are. As i am contemplating on buying one (MIM). I have tried both and love both of them, i adore the jazz basses thin neck but also admire the precission basses qualities too, but im deadlocked on which to go for

thank you.

If you are truely deadlocked then flip a coin. You'll stand a 50/50 chance of liking it better than the other bass and until you've had more exposure to both it will be difficult to know which you will like better in the long run.

i personally like precision better. whenever i play a jazz i find my self using the neck pickup (which sounds more like a p bass:cool:) but the differences are.

Different body shapes.
different pickup configuration.
different size necks.
and thats it.

again, you just have to try them out at the store before you buy. and maybe you should buy something a little cheaper if you're just starting. look at the squier classic vibe series or the squier vintage modified jazz bass.

p.s.
the guy who showed you the thing on physics did so because you spelled PRECISION wrong.:smug: see ya

The way i get it the Jazz Bass is an all around bass. You can use it with everything.
Precision is good as well but fits better to funk and stuff like that.
But you shuld choose the one that you like the sound and the shape of :)

They both work fine in any context, but they sound totally different. Jazz has more low end and treble, Precision has more mids- it's a thicker, chunkier sound. Jazz is growlier and zingier, more 'modern' sounding. Most folks prefer a Jazz for slap. I said most.

What? Wait! No... A P bass better for funk and stuff like that, eh? Stuff like country, metal, rock, blues, and jazz? Is that what you mean by funk and stuff like that?

It doesn't matter which one you get first, you'll end up with one of each eventually. ;)
They're tonally completely different animals and there's a use for both.

By the way, keep an eye out for a Precision bass with a Jazz neck (they're largely interchangeable). Then you get the neck you prefer with the P-bass tone.
