fender jazz vs fender precession

My Audere/Nordy J fills the bottom as well as any P I have seen/heard. That being said though, I have been gravitating towards P's ever since I got my Sting-bass. I do find it a little harder to play quickly on the P with the wider spacing. I am working on The Ocean (I am a novice) and I can play this much easier/better on the Jazz. It may be the fact that I can play with a lighter touch on the Jazz and still hear what I am playing. When I lighten-up on the P, the sound goes away. I find that my Jazz is more versatile but I like the overall feel of the Sting single coil bass better from the neck to the weight to the flats.

They're tonally completely different animals and there's a use for both.

By the way, keep an eye out for a Precision bass with a Jazz neck (they're largely interchangeable). Then you get the neck you prefer with the P-bass tone.

Yeah, I use both, and couldnt do without one or the other. My first bass was a P. Its fairly universal. Jazz bass has a different bite to its tone for sure (ping!) and The necks are faster for my hands. I love'em both.

Hey Seriously Save up and buy yourself a nice p-j fender hybrid... here's a link to 1 it's a lil more $$$ but you know what it's got the Best OF BOTH WORLDS (Oh Yeah Miley!) Ya it's an active (whish it wasn't) but it sounds darn good.

I do not recommend this. In my experience, PJ's tend to not do jazz or precision particularly well. Your best option imo is to start with the jazz since you like the neck. To me feel and comfort are everything. Next pickup a P with a jazz neck or change it yourself. I have always prefered J necks over P necks. That's just me though.
