Fender Jazz?!

It's a spot on the neck (possibly covering more than one fret) where a string just doesn't seem to sustain and sounds 'dead', whilst it may be fine averywhere else up the neck. Fenders are apparently prone to them on the G string between the 5th and 7th frets (I think). My last bass, a Yamaha, had a fairly dead A at the 5th fret on the E. Not a massive deal, but if I wanted an A to really ring out I had to play the open string instead.

Ooooooh........shoot! I think I might have one. Now I can't wait to get home from work to see. Is there a way to fix this issue if I do have one? Thanks for the info by the way. I have so much more terminology to learn.

No, some things in life are so absolute.
A MIM Fender bass can't be better than a German Warwick or than a Musicman. Just can't!
If you believe that it is, then you are completely irrespective or you work in Fender company
Nowhere in his post did he say it was 'better'! He said he prefers the jazz over the other basses. What's the issue here??

Welcome to the Jazz Bass. Glad you like it! Of the ten basses I own, the three Jazz Basses are my favorites hands down. My two four string Jazz's are MIJ (black Geddy Lee and Aerodyne) and my five string is blue 60th Anniversary MIM. I love them.

The only one I did any kind of modifications to is the MIM Jazz V. The pups were changed out for US. I also changed the white pickguard to a silver one and added inlay stickers to fancy up the neck a little. It gave it the Dallas Cowboys look I was after. I am in the process of makaing a Cowboys guitar strap to go with it.

No, you're right. It's completely impossible for that to ever be true. Or for someone to have actually tried all of those instruments and prefer a MIM Fender.

Clearly the OP is completely clueless and/or a Fender employee then? :scowl:

Let me explain the concept of 'preference'...

I had the same feeling as you when I got my MIM Jazz. Wished I'd got one earlier! After playing a 63 Precision for 25 yrs (WIDE, slim neck), I was amazed how much better the Jazz neck fit my left hand, so much easier to play and faster than the P.
As for your PG choice, almost anything will go with Arctic White. I have a white and a parchment, and I'm thinking of getting a couple more to change out as the mood hits me.
