Talk about a really bad adjustment
design this is it. It has a machine screw going into a small coil spring.
When you adjust the pickup screw the spring rides up and down the threads of the screw. So it has no effect on the height of the pickup.
Anyone have a solution for a more accurate way to adjust the pickups?

You could:

1) Try larger diameter springs, so they can't ride the threads.

2) If you are willing to modify the pickguard, you can file out notches where the pickup screws are, mount foam under the pickup, drill out the screw holes in the pickup, and screw into the wood for height adjustment like a Precision.

3) Suck it up buttercup.

If you can only find springs that are larger than the screw heads, there is this new fangled invention called, I think they call'm washers. Dono why they call'm that, they don' clean nuttin. You have to pull the pickguard to install the washers though.

You don't need washers. The screws go through the pickguard first, so that acts like a giant washer.
The springs in an original Mustang bass pickup were tapered. The diameter was bigger on the pickguard side and got smaller as you got to where the screw goes through the bottom of the pickup.
