Get a sheet of pickguard material from Stew Mac or eBay. Then find anybody with a jig saw and a spindle sander. Your local high school shop teacher could knock it out in 15 minutes! Just do them the favor of tracing your current guard out on the sheet first (hint: use masking tape along the cut line to mark the shape).

The Cabronita pickguard doesn't have a bevel to it, so it's easy-easy!!

That CNC hole is the first place they look. Everyone knows that to smuggle weed on a plane, you wrap it in electrical tape and foam and stick it in the control cavity taped onto a wire to make it look like a critically necessary electrical component.

So I've been told.

Buying from non-authorized Fender dealers usually means you don't get a warranty, so always check that first when a music store offers prices lower than places like MF and Sam Ash.

EDIT: Just looked them up...they say they're an authorized dealer. Have fun!

Just soundchecked here at Horseshoe Bay, TX with the Cabronita. Never even touched my MIA '62 Reissue Jazz! At full-on SVT through 8x10 volume it's proving to be more versatile than I thought compared to playing through my practice rig at home! Very responsive to right hand dynamics and is cleaning up if I lighten my touch. Band mates responded with instant satisfaction! Definitely has deep p.a. sub rattling lows + a really natural sounding upper mid bump. Still rock & roll all the way, but able to soften up a little. Is it as versatile as a really great split-coil pickup on a great p-bass? No- but it has more to offer than just rock grind.

I plan on using it for the whole show tonight.

In other news, schlepping 2 basses in a gig bag through airports and hotels sucks.

That is the truth! Did it for years and finally got fed up one day and stopped. Have fun with it on the Sixpence show!

My black Cabronita showed up on Saturday (2 days earlier than I was expecting - Thanks, Sweetwater!) so I had the weekend to mess with it.

Thoughts: Fit and finish are better than I was expecting from a MIM Fender; it's easily on par with my CIJ P-bass and not far from my '04 American P. The only issue I immediately noticed were slightly rough fret edges on the G string side of the neck; then again it had been sitting in a chilly Fedex truck. Everything else seems as solid as can be. Mine weighed in at 8.5lbs on the bathroom scale. I also noticed that the forearm contour is less pronounced than I was expecting. This isn't a problem for me as I like slab bodies. I can also see the (very much U-shaped) gloss-finished neck being a bit sticky in the summer, so I'll probably sand off the finish down the line.

I can't comment in too much detail about tone as I've only been able to play through my practice amp at apartment volume, but suffice to say the Cab doesn't sound like a P Bass. To my ear it's less boxy sounding with more pronounced upper mids and somewhat muted highs. I will echo scotch's statement that the Fidelitron pickup is very sensitive to right hand dynamics. I'll know more once I run it through the SVT with a band this week, but for now I'm quite satisfied for the price.
