Love the purple, don't care for the tort guard and kinda hate gold hardware in general. But I've been a fan of Ali Shaheed Muhammad for ages (since Tribe, naturally). Would definitely give this bass a whirl if I stumble across one in a shop somewhere.

Just saw them a few weeks back. That color is not my thing (I don't get the tort with the purple--it clashes pretty bad) but it sure sounded great with Ali playing it.

I'll preface by saying I think the bass is ugly, however...

If it's similar specs as the American Original/AVRI series, then a $250 upcharge doesn't really seem that nuts for a limited color and gold covers IF that's your thing. it's not my thing, and I wouldn't even shell out the $1,999 for an American Original.
