Fender MiM Rumors true?

I think those are just those list prices that no one sellls them for.

Correct they are the list prices but if you compare 2008 to 2009 prices you can get a general idea what retail may be +/-.

Geddy Lee 2008 list is 1299.99, for 2009 it's 1530.00

Since the GL retails currently for $999 I would assume with a $230.00 MSRP increase the GL should retail around $1,180.00.

The American Standard P was $1579.00 list for 2008 and will be $1800.00 for 2009 (a $230 increase). Since it sells for $1099 at some online retailers it will probably fall in the $1280.00 range.

This is my point exactly. I never stated the OP prices were the street prices. Just stating that prices were up, and if it were true.

I'm not really mad at Fender...I'm just disappointed haha. I love my Fenders. But I don't see myself buying a new one if the prices keep rising. I usually buy used anyway. I'll gladly jump over to Lakland, Valenti, Sandburg, or Nash at this point. Heck, even Warmoth is an option for me.

Regardless of the amount this price increase is remember...Fender prohibits advertising a price below...I believe, 30% of MSRP. So if you buy it online from a major store, 30% of MSRP is what you will pay.

If List goes up 10%-20%-30%...so does our cost.
This cost percentage will pass equally from List to Street.

I was at GC last weekend at opening hoping for one of those amazing deals we read about here . After playing a few Precisions nothing about it pushed me off the fence to pull $1000-$1100 out of my wallet. Sure they are fine,decent,o.k. But it just didn't move me enough to jump. Now I'm faced with the same decision (on new anyway) but at a higher cost. I guess Fender made my decision for me. Ofcourse IMO.

On my way home from GC I stopped at a G&L dealer and played a US 08' SB-2 (PJ Precision style bass) . It's build quality made the $1000-$1100 Fender P seem like a toy. From paint finish, tuners ,bridge and tone, build quality, craftsmanship. Just a real Custom Shop type presentation! Salesman quoted a price with case $995. And now that Fender P I'm comparing it against is going to cost More??!! :rollno:

In an economy where people are streamlining their spending, Fender raises their prices. Apparently they still don't get it. Now is the time to HOLD your prices, or to offer something extra to entice potential buyers to spend their money on a Fender (besides the shape of the headstock). How many SXs can you buy and mod for the (new) price of a MIM? It's not like you're spending the extra and getting USA product - it's still an outsourced production. Plus Mexico is a mess now anyway. When I bought my first MIM Jazz in '92, it cost me $260 new. At that time it was great bang for the buck. Not anymore, based on what they have been doing over the last few years. Buy used - or buy an SX. My .02...
