Greetings, All!

I've seen a number of individual Mod Shop threads here on TalkBass, my own included, but I just realized there is no centralized club for these somewhat customizable instruments. So, why not start one and see who wants to throw in their hat?

I'm not assigning numbers like some strictly regimented system. Rather, I just want it to be an easy-breezy, low-maintenance coalition of people who decided to pull the trigger. With that in mind, and as an inveterate tinkerer myself, I'd also like to invite people who have instruments that use Mod Shop bodies and/or necks. What I will adhere to is the classic "no pics…no bass" rule for this club. :snaphappy: After all, one must have some standards.

So, what did you get and what was on your mind when you chose it? Inquiring minds want to know!

I've chronicled the deeper details and other data hardpoints in my Unveiling thread, but in my case, the short story is I've long hungered for a cool, slick-lookin' Silverburst Jazz. The previous Fender American Design Experience would've scratched that itch, but I kept holding back. :bookworm:

As it turns out, I waited too long. The FADE was shut down and later replaced by the less-options/more-expensive Mod Shop. Eight years later, when they added a blocked neck option and an applicable coupon code, I finally pulled the trigger. It may not have the exact neck I would've loved to have gotten from the FADE (blocks, binding and a curvy, vintage-style fretboard), but I have no regrets with this set of options.

My own, little mods; a Hipshot BT12 Drop-D Xtender…

…and a set of Thomastik-Infeld Powerbass strings not strung-through the body. (A fellow TB'er called them "the Rolls Royce of strings" and I gotta agree! They're fantastic! 🤩)

Here it is, my favourite bass, my Mod Shop P.
It was bought for my 40th birthday with money gifted by my family. So very attached to it.

I wanted a Pbass that looked similar to Gordon Moakes' bass (Bloc Party). Preferably a US made one.
The closest colour to Blue Agave is Ice Blue Metallic, which I love.
I chose the '63 neck shape, which I had on an Am Pro II, great shape.

Pickup wise I went with the Corona Classic, which surprisingly is not offered anymore. It was ok but I quickly replaced it with a Nordstrand NP4V.

I love the fact that you can get a US bass for pretty much the same price as an Am Pro II, but you can choose your colour, pickup, pickguard, neck…. Speaking of neck I like that it doesn't have the Am Pro II yellow tint, and 4 bolts (easily replaced in case of an unexpected issue).

It's a great bass and I love it. I wish it was ever so slightly better balanced on the strap, but nothing too inconvenient.

I'd happily go back with the Mod Shop. I was quoted 10-12 weeks. It arrived in 5!

That Siver burst is beautiful!!

Will grab photos ASAP.

I have two, kinda.

First is a true mod shop P, in mystic LPB. (Aka dark blue metallic) It has the RW with pearloid blocks neck.

Second is a mod shop second body PJ—the screw holes for the side jack are in the wrong spot so the plate sits a bit off. Easy to fix but I haven't yet. It's in Olympic Pearl. I installed Fralin pickups and a wenge neck. I had a roast maple neck on it while waiting for the wenge, and it sounded fine. With the wenge, it actually sounded pretty bad. So now the roast maple is back on it officially.

Hey, Jimmy! I was hoping you'd see the thread and hop on board!

(I want a number anyway.)
Ugh! Fine! Since yours echoes mine so closely, I shall dub thee "Number 2"! Happy?! :bored:

I am, of course, totally kidding! Have a blast with you new number! However, this doesn't mean I'm gonna start handing out more numbers and keeping track of some kind of club database! :bookworm: That sounds too much like "work" and I will not get suckered into that level of responsibility!
