Fender Modern Player Dimension bass.
Mine is Charcoal with a rosewood fingerboard.
Jazz style neck, a little chunky front to back. But very comfortable to play. I dig the new fender "Badass" style bridge.
Light-weight body bass weight well under 9 pounds.
Finish is very nice in this price range, and has tinted stain on neck. Looks cool.
The star of this bass is Fenders new triple blade pickup.
Two knobs, volume, and a 5-way select switch. No treble knob.
The 5 settings are all useful, 1 and 5 need a slight volume boost compared to the other three. But sound good.
I don't miss the tone knob with this bass. any adjustments can be made with a touch of your amp.
This bass is made well, nice hardware. sweet playing neck.
And offers a new sound pallet from Fender. Think Musicman Ray meets Jazz Bass. Lots of midrange growl.
Very nice for it's $499.00. price.

Got it Thursday night. (UPS) Played it for about 1/2 an hour.
Play great.
Went to play it now, Friday at 5:00 pm. NOTHING !!!
Bass is dead. input jack? Pickup ?, Wiring? Who knows.
To be safe, I pulled out another fresh cord, Which worked fine with one of my other basses.
So cord and amp are not an issue.
I bought bass from Amazon.com. Contacted them, they were great. Will ship out a new bass tomorrow. No charge.
And pay for return shipping on the first bass.
I hope the first bass is a dud, because I really dig this bass.
Hoped Fender's QC would be better than this for a $500.00. bass.
Time will tell.

I've had the Modern Player Dimension for a few weeks now.

I liked it very much at first. Slim, jazz-like neck, not too heavy at about 9 pounds or so, interesting tone variations, and surprising good fit and finish. When I took it to band practice last weekend, it just didn't have the low end output I need for the classic rock we play. I switched over to my other bass.

I got it from Amazon when they were running that special. I paid under $300.00 shipped, so I feel it was worth it. But I definitely think it would benefit from that second pickup at the neck position.

My experience was opposite than yours. My guitarist's G&L had real good low end output and that is what made me look at basses with H pickups... picked up the Dimension and HOLY CRAP this thing was a beast. It put the G&L to shame. I have the Deluxe model and it looks like the pick up is different than yours. Out of curiosity, where is yours made?

His is Chinese and yours is probably American. Same name, two completely different basses.

Yes, mine was crafted in China. It's a modern player model. I'll add that it does sound better going through the Ampeg PF800 and SVT 8-10 cab, but still not as much low end as my Precision.

Is your right hand placement the same on both basses?

I play with a pick, so I usually have my hand resting on the bridge, on both basses.

I'm sorry, I disagree. The one I held in my hand at the music store, AND this one at Sweetwater BOTH plainly have written on the back of the neck...."Made in Mexico".

Just to clarify, I'm talking about the Fender "Deluxe Dimension Bass IV".

Just got mine today and for some reason the input jack was loose when I plugged in at Guitar Center. I had the tech tighten up the input jack and it was cool. I get home and plug into my Jeff Berlin Mark Bass amp and the volume was extremely low. Plugged in in my Sting Pbass and I almost took the house down, so it's not the cord or amp. It sucks that I have to drive back to Guitar Center again and return it. Considering just getting my money back.

What genres of music do you guys use the Dimension bass to play. I want to play Jazz, rock and metal and I'm considering getting the Transparent Charcoal Dimension bass.

btw, does it feel significantly heavier than a Thunderbird?

Played a maple version in SamAsh today.
The mid-setting (3 pickups) sounded phenomenal.
Bass has character, and sounds punchy too!
Probably best for finger funk, good for slap, but I've heard better.
Front and rear pickup is a bit sterile, but combined with mid sounds nice.
Combine all 3 pickups and it sounds really nice!

Any idea if there's a tonal difference between the maple and rosewood basses?

I tested a few amps, and was really happy with the TC Electronics BG250 combo amp.
Looking into either a 2x8, or a 112 of these amps.
The 115 sounded phenomenal, much better imho to the Ampeg, GK, Hartke, and Fender amps.

This bass probably also will sound good thru a MarkBass 115 amp.

rekon You are speaking about the triple bucker one.. is cool.. tried one out.. wondering if a tone circuit one is available
