Fender Modern Player Dimension Bass 2013

After playing it a while, I have noticed it is a wee bit neck heavy. It doesn't necessarily "neck dive", but I can feel it on the shoulder strap that the neck wants to drop. You won't notice it while playing. I only notice it when I take my hands off it, which is rare. Still lovin' it though.

Has anyone else noticed that the MP Dimension, Deluxe IV and Deluxe V Dimension pages on Fender's website are down as of today? "404-Not Found". I don't know what this means. Are they changing prices, or specs, or having delivery problems with the lower-priced Dimensions? I am still really excited at the idea of Santa letting me have a Deluxe IV in Natural for Christmas.

So I hope that this current outage on Fender's website does not portend problems for these models.

I'm stoked to say I have a black n maple 4 string USA Dimension on its way. I was thinking of getting an old G&L L2000, so maybe this will fill that spot. I mainly use passive old school type basses ( P, J, hollowbodies, T-birds), so it will be fun to try something modern.

The Fender pages are back up on both the MP and the Deluxe Dimensions. It must have been a Fender "housekeeping" issue. That's what I get for jumping to conclusions!

I drove all the way up to sweetwater(which is in ft wayne In) to get the last deluxe dimension they had and low and behold it was black with maple board which makes the black pickguard look less "odd" and looks really cool. I was at sam ash and they just got in the MP dimension and it was only 450 bucks!!! The triple bu ker rocks. Only bad thing I noticed is the thing sounded a little small and I had to eq a lot of bass in to get the sound to fill out...so I started thinking man if this thing had another humbucked....wahla...the HH deluxe was up at sweetwater and I made a mad dash....I am absolutely floored at the sound...indescribable good. Csn do anything and doesn't sound as "sterile" as my musicman(I have a stingray and bongo)..it really is atk, musicman, and fender rolled into one. My favorite position is #2 which r the inner coils facing each other on eack pickup. It doesnt lose any fullness or volume switching from single to humbucking mode and can even do the jaco thing well in position#1 with front pickup only. The thing is naturally low mid to mid heavy(which I love for the fingersyle "growl"...but u can eq it out for slapping at a simple twist of the mid knob. There is nothing this thing cant do...comes with straplocks, strap, cable...u know all the fender case candy. I bought it for $1580 cuz I drove up there and picked it up.

Played a maple version in SamAsh today.
The mid-setting (3 pickups) sounded phenomenal.
Bass has character, and sounds punchy too!
Probably best for finger funk, good for slap, but I've heard better.
Front and rear pickup is a bit sterile, but combined with mid sounds nice.
Combine all 3 pickups and it sounds really nice!

Any idea if there's a tonal difference between the maple and rosewood basses?

I tested a few amps, and was really happy with the TC Electronics BG250 combo amp.
Looking into either a 2x8, or a 112 of these amps.
The 115 sounded phenomenal, much better imho to the Ampeg, GK, Hartke, and Fender amps.

This bass probably also will sound good thru a MarkBass 115 amp.

A local store where my son takes guitar lessons has a Mexican Dimension 5 string.
I picked it up for a couple minutes.
I don't care for the body shape. The setup was crap.
I plan on giving it a good once over next lesson

I've had the Modern Player Dimension for a few weeks now.

I liked it very much at first. Slim, jazz-like neck, not too heavy at about 9 pounds or so, interesting tone variations, and surprising good fit and finish. When I took it to band practice last weekend, it just didn't have the low end output I need for the classic rock we play. I switched over to my other bass.

I got it from Amazon when they were running that special. I paid under $300.00 shipped, so I feel it was worth it. But I definitely think it would benefit from that second pickup at the neck position.

And the Modern Player Dimension has caught my eye.
Was looking for a good finger-style bass, fast neck.
That burp, tone. I dig the high mass bridge. The three blade pickup is just something new from Fender.
So I pulled the trigger, called Amazon, and ordered a Charcoal
Rosewood fingerboard model.
I'm excited to test drive this new beast.

This and the new Gibson EB shows that both companies can still put out a cool new product.

...yet they both look pretty much the same. To me, anyway. At least Gibson's Victory gives them a bit more right to have that look.

Personally, I think the butt's too big and the pick guard doesn't seem to guard much. Looks like a convenient way to hide the top routing, like many Fenders. Oh well.

Anyway, I wonder if they'll bring back the Performer names as well.
