totally. it seems like they're really trying to break that stereotype of relying on P's and J's and never doing anything different. doing a pretty good job of it too with all the quirky entry/mid level stuff they have out now. but giving this dimension the full usa deluxe treatment takes it up a notch. I'm not sure I personally want one but I respect fender for throwing it into the mix.

When I was at Fender the Dimension bass was a project I am happy to be a part of. I got to play the basses quite a bit. Mainly the MIA for demo and Final spec testing. I do not know what got changed but I know I had input for the preamp and pickups. The MIA 4 string I had absolutely kicked butt, dare I say more than my 93 Stingray. I had two different 5 stringers to play with but both were very different from final spec. There was originally a boost only style EQ was used on the basses. Michael Frank Braun is the Genius behind the guts of the bass, he designed a new pickup and preamp. If you have a chance to check out this bass I think you will enjoy yourself. I had on overwhelming response to the bass over a MM stingray.
If they kept the specs:
Compound radius Fingerboard 9.5-12 I think, 34" scale on both 4 and 5
4 string - Vol, 3 band EQ
5 string (two pickup) - Vol, blend, 3 band multi switch for series, parallel, inner coil, outer coils.
Don't know about the bridges - there was one in prototype, the american deluxe style, and the american std.
The bass can nail a MM tone in spades, but it can get much more refined. This is the First Fender bass I genuinely want to purchase. The particular one I had the most time with was a qtr sawn Maple neck with a figured maple board, black body.

I finally brokedown and bought the MP Dimension. I had been waffling for months between the MP Jaguar, Blacktop Jazz, or this.
I've only had it for ten days but so far I'm impressed. I got the Candy Apple Red.
Set up out the box was good but I had to tweek the intonation a bit and string height is a little high for my liking. I'm going to wait a while and have it set up professionally.
The fit and finish is as good as any other Fender I have seen or played despite the fact it is "Crafted in China".
The neck definitely leans toward the Jazz side as it is narrower that the Precisions. The frets are finished nicely with no rough edges (not like the MIM Precision I had before). I would have liked the Maple neck but that wasn't an option.
The finish on the body is flawless. When I took it out of the box, I did freak a little as I saw what I thought was a giant scratch down the middle of the back. Turns out it was just some residual polishing compound and rubbed right off. The colour is awesome! Pictures really don't do it justice.
The controls are noiseless and work flawlessly. I was a little concerned about the pick-up selector as those type of switches can be scratchy. I would have liked a tone pot, though.
The sounds you can get from it are amazing. I really like the Triplebucker pick up arrangement. However, if you are looking for a typical Fender bass sound, this ain't it. It is heavy on the mid to low mid range. I like it but it may not be everyone's cup of tea. I am still playing around with the various configurations and haven't settled on one the suits me yet.
All in all, I like it. I doubt it will be as popular as a Jazz or Precision, but that just means it will become a collctor guitar sooner and the value will skyrocket and I will make a fortune when I sell it. Could happen. :p

Seems as though this style of bass will play heavily in Fender's bass future as there are american versions already unlike the jaguar bodied basses. Think I saw somewhere that they spent 2 years designing this bass. I know it looks like their response to mm stingrays. I like the mm tone but the neck was not my favorite feel wise. For the people who already have the mp version, how is the neck dive is it a well balanced instrument?

After playing it a while, I have noticed it is a wee bit neck heavy. It doesn't necessarily "neck dive", but I can feel it on the shoulder strap that the neck wants to drop. You won't notice it while playing. I only notice it when I take my hands off it, which is rare. Still lovin' it though.:bassist:
