I'm frustrated. Help, please? Have a MP Tele. Want to put a hipshot D-tuner on it. Fender doesn't know what tuners are on the bass. Hipshot doesn't know. I posted about 4X here and haven't gotten a single response. I'm trying one more time.

Anyone have any clue what tuners are on the MP Tele? Anyone have the Tele and another Fender they can compare it to, and at least tell me, "It's not a MIM Jazz tuner", or preferably, "It's the same as on my...."???

If not some emotional support and a bump would be appreciated, so maybe the next guy/gal will see this and respond. :) Thanks.

I don't know what you mean by "Fender doesn't know what tuners are on the bass." They look like vintage open back tuners to me, but I'm not what you would call an expert. The truly vintage tuners and their re-issues are reversed, so I would expect them to be in this case, too. Perfectly normal. I did, however, attach an image so that others would have an easier time figuring it out.

I called Fender tech support, and while the guy was incredibly nice and doing his best to be helpful, he couldn' tell me what they were or what other basses they used the same tuners on. Even put me on hold to ask others. Hipshot, who have in the past always been incredibly accomodating, completely ignored 2 info requests I sent. To 2 different departments.

Anyhow, thanks for the excellent pic. May help someone else to help me with a comparison.

As per tekdiver's prev. post they are fender vintage open back tuners...specs given for this bass on several sites confirm this, suggest you try the link and contact for the "allspares" site I posted earlier

I'm pretty sure that a standard Hipshot BT3 is what you need. The only question is whether or not your tuners are reverse winding or not. If they are reverse winding, then you would order a "bass side" tuner (since BT3's are reverse wound to match pre-CBS Fenders) and if they are not reverse winding, then you would order a "treble side" tuner (or just tell them you don't want a reverse winding version). I'm sure one call to Hipshot would verify this in a matter of minutes.
