I never ask about plugging in the better bass amps at GC. Easier to ask forgiveness than permission. Nobody's ever bothered me about the fact that I just go up and plug in the amp I want to play through.

really more of i needed speaker wire or the ampeg and MB stuff and they "just couldn't find any....

Wound up only doing one set last night and used my Big Al. 
Took the Fender again to rehearsal today, and I'm still loving it. Wish I could pinpoint and put into words what I like about it, but I'm stuck. Like I said a few times already, it just feels really good in my hands. I know little about Fender necks but this doesn't feel "thick and chunky" to me at all. The sound is really full too. It fills out a 3 piece band nicely. Still looking forward to playing it through my rig at a gig.
Feel I should add that my knobs are coming off. Kinda pisses me off even though it's not a huge deal. I'm pretty sure I've got knobs laying around that I can throw on there. I just don't get this kind of crap with Fender. Little annoying things that just shouldn't be. When I had my MIA P Deluxe everything was falling apart on it. Strap pegs ripped out. Pieces in the back in the stringthrough holes all fell out. Tuners had problems. Like it was slopped together. Why should knobs fall apart on a bass? If I were the first this happened to I'd say it was a fluke, but the issue has already been mentioned here. Dang you, Fender!!!!! I still dig the bass though.

I just got done having a new nut and jack installed. The old jack barely held the cable in, and the nut was just poor factory setup.
Same here, still dig the bass... Especially with the vintage bridge it now sports, the gig this weekend will be interesting for sure...

I'm done with Fender.
Bass is 2 weeks old. First the knob starts falling apart. Need to get a new knob. No big deal. Today I pick up the bass, start to play, and it rattles beyond belief. I don't mean a little buzz, I mean a serious rattle that makes it sound like I'm playing a dobro. As in, it's unusable.
Sounded like it was the truss rod, but after some fiddling I find it's the tuner on the G string. No sweat, right? I tighten all the screws a tad. No difference. But if I hold the tuner, it doesn't rattle. Maybe I can just get someone to stand there and hold it during shows.
I had an American P deluxe, that I liked when I initially bought it. A couple of weeks in it started falling apart. Won't go through my other Fender tales, but the only Fender I own that I like I had to research and modify in order to make it playable. I'm talking about the Jaguar with the crazy electronic buzz.

And to compound the issues I have, the 2 times I called customer service (2 unrelated issues), they were clueless and couldn't help me. To double compound that the only authorized Fender repair dude near me is a mean, arrogant, lunatic, initials JB, and anyone in my area that knows him can attest to that.
So I have to order a tuner now? And the bass is unplayable till I get one I guess. Awesome. Did I mention that a pickup was totally dead in a Highway One Jazz I bought a few months back. Oh no, I didn't. I'm pissed.

My wife bought it for me in late november from Musiciansfriend. I didn't get it till xmas. My 30 days with them is over. If and when I get the time this week I'm going to call Fender customer service. If they tell me to take it to the only fender guy in town, or to send it to them I'm going to be seething. Pretty sure it's rattling where the metal clove meets the pole on the tuner, although it's hard to tell. I'm going to request that they send me another tuner, although I'm not too hopeful regarding that as when I called regarding sizing for a hipshot, they couldn't tell me what tuner was on it. Can't even replace it until I know what I'm replacing.
usually things bought before christmas don't get the clock started running for returns until dec 25th. so MF wouldn't budge on the return policy?

Still diggin the bass alot. I can see the potential of the cheaper components. Input jack doesnt hold as well as it should, "A" string nut slot is lower than the rest, had to raise that string higher than the rest. Have not had any problems yet with knobs or tuners.. That said, sounds and plays great, love the look. Still think its a great buy at $500!
Same thing on mine, new nut had to go on... still happy, the first recordings are turning out great, the sound is there....
Has anybody else noticed that the E-string on their Modern Player Tele is significantly quieter than the other strings?
I've had mine about a week and first noticed this issue at a rehearsal. Plugged it into Audacity today and the E level seems to be ~1/2 that of the A (the D is louder still). Adjusting the pole pieces doesn't seem to have much effect, especially on the bridge pickup where the E and G pole pieces aren't even close to being under the strings. Looks like Fender uses the same pickup for both bridge and neck.
Raising the E side of the bridge pickup did help a bit. Looks like I have to remove the pickguard to raise the neck pickup. Wondering if I should just take it back to the retailer and get them to fix it?
Helpful hints and suggestions would be welcome.

My FMPT has even string-to-string balance. No buyer's remorese, I like this bass.
My modification efforts are slow, but underway. I thought I'd share what is under the pickguard in this thread (originally discussed in my tribute bass thread). BTW, the tone pots read 250.

Never realized how much sweetness the pickguard adds.
Update on mine, I put new knobs on. One of the stock came apart comletely, and another was on it's way. Put a D-tuner on, and swapped my E string tuner with my G which rattled enough to make the bass unusable. I like this bass again.
For anyone else who intends to put a D-tuner on, it uses a MM tuner. BT1. And yep, I'm sure.

there are just 4 screws.. pickups are not very movable like guitar humbuckers but you can change the positions just by screwing ...
done... i changed the bridge .. i put there bridge from some HW P-bass... and i like it
it is 18mm not like the original 20mm.. so now it fits well to bridge pick-up pole pieces ..
Vintage bridge on mine also, didn't notice a big tone difference, but looks great with the 70's vibe going on. The fat low end pillow coming off the neck PU is just too addicting... On the gig again tonight...
