FENDER MODERN PLAYER TELE

I built one like that a while back out of a Squier VM Tele Bass - pretty cool sound...
So my first impressions are: Great bass for £400 shipped, the neck feels fast and the bass itself has a nice weight to it. My jazz bass is pretty heavy this is just under that, sounds wise well it's stock at the mo no Ernie ball slinkys factory strings small adjustment to bridge i like it sounds nice and with some playing of each pick up you can get a nice Jazz or P bass sound. Now i aint had alot of experience with basses high or low end, i've played low end squire and the classic vibe series aswell as MIM Fenders like my own and the Highway One. I think this for the price is fantastic great build quality, nice versatile sound and a decent weight id seriously check this out if your on the lookout for a mid ranged bass. Oh and this finish i was worried about it had a squire with it and hated it, this finish is nice not too yellow and you can see the grain of the wood top marks Fender.

Wow, that looks so cool on the stand. Glad you like it - I tried a MP Jazz the other day and thought it was excellent. Hope to get a crack at one of these Teles before too long. Post some sounds if you can swing it!

So what's the story about the pickups? are they big fat humbuckers or simply split-Ps with big fat chrome covers?

The pickups are humbuckers and not split coils. I removed the pickguard on mine and had a look. They sound different from split coils, more bottom end.

Huh! Pretty sweet sounding! Thanks so much. That this is both pickups on full suggests there's lots of good sound combos there.
My butterscotch blonde was delivered earlier tonight. I ordered it on black friday 15% off, delivered for $510. Best $500 I have ever spent. This is my first budget bass, owned USA MTD's, Modulus, Spector, Fender MIA Jazz, P, Roscoe Beck, US Lakland, NS Design, Human Base and others I cant remember. I have always liked the look of the Telecaster bass but I never wanted to drop the $ for a vintage one. Then I saw this in BP magazine. The fit and finish are impressive, the whole thing is impressive for the $! Only thing I can think of that needs to be done is adjust the action and figure out how to raise the bass side of the pu's a bit, (personal preference). Again, nice, sweet bass for the $$. And the sticker says "crafted in china".. Who would have known!

I don't think I understand. Split coils meaning a split P pickup? And humbucker meaning like on the modern player jazz? Or something different? Really curious.
Same deal with me. As someone previously stated, there's a lot of charm in that little headstock. Always like the overall looks of the tele bass, but not enough to drop a fortune on one. And I was always put off a bit by single mudbucker, or the little P pickup. This thing seems perfect. One will be mine by the new year.

I'm going to guess that these are being cranked out in the same place as the Squier CVs. Grats on your new bass.
