I got Dunlop medium scale flats on mine and I like them alot. Very good quality strings. But they're more on the "modern" side of flats tone. For "dull thump" I'd go with LaBellas or D'Addario Black Tapes.

Medium for string through bridges. the Mexican PJ with the top load bridge will need short scale.

Yes, they should.
LaBella says that the wound portion of their regular short scale bass strings is 32.25".
Measure from string ball to nut on your bass to be sure that it is less than that.
I'm confident that it will be, but measuring only takes a moment.
Also you will have several gauge choices in the regular short DT flats.
I suggest the 43-104 set, which are in the middle range.
BTW, the string through set only has one gauge choice, so in a way, you are lucky.

There is a set for Bridge load. I had them on my PJ Mustang.

It’ll depend on what kind of volume you need, but I generally recommend the GK MB combos or Fender Rumbles. I’ve used both manufacturers 12” combos and they’re both great, the Rumble has less going on in the high range, which can be a good thing. The GK is more full range, but has a more flexible and usable EQ in my opinion and can get close to the Rumble sound whereas the Rumble can’t match the clarity of the GK when needed. The GK is more money though. If you look locally used, you might be able to find either.
Yeh, that’s the one I use. Just about fits in nice with some rearrangement to adjustable padding at the bottom of the case!

Both PJ’s are VVT. I originally intended on running the toggle on the sonic blue but it didn’t come to fruition. And my favorite of the 3 has now become the Pawn shop despite what I wrote recently about it on here. I dialed it in a little better with less distortion. I like the bridge plate with the string through style better, the sustain is amazing. I also dig the black letters on the headstock better than the current PJ decal colors.
Peter Hook is absolutely one of my favorite bass players, and he has always been a reference point for my playing. This is my homage to one of his most iconic and legendary basslines created with New Order played with my Fender Mustang PJ total black limited edition... Enjoy!
I just commented on your video yesterday. Lol very nice and beautiful Bass. I’ve never seen the black version offered.
Been looking for a gold colored control plate. Only can find Mustang Guitar plates... anyone know if by chance the Mustang PJ and the Mustang guitar control plates are interchangeable? Earlier in this thread are the PJ control plate specs but can't find the same for the guitar.
