Fender Mustang Club

Oh no, you misunderstand. He gave me the bass to STOP playing the song!

:roflmao:

Indeed I did !

Cannot say that I've ever had that experience with a song, though there have been some which WE in the band wished would stop getting requested.

Buck Owens once recorded a song about not playing a certain song.

It was called 'Please Don't Play A-Eleven'.

[A11] was the jukebox code for the song in question.

Just wondering, those of you that have upgraded the pickups, are the stock pickups Alnico or Ceramic?

I know most Mim pickups are ceramic but the pickups in these basses sound surprisingly good so I would not be surprised if they were Alnico, I should have taken a look when I stuck some more foam in the pickup cavity but I didn't

Ok for those curious I had a look and the stock pickups are Alnico, I also found that there is also a circular coin size hole routed below where the A string is so if you are having issues getting the pickup close enough to the A string then that is likely to be the culprit

Hey guys, somewhat unrelated but I was wondering if anyone had seen this photo? It's Bruce Thomas (Elvis Costello's bassist), playing a modified mustang. Wonder what those pickups are, and how they sound!

Beyond Belief is the sound I shoot for every time I pick up the bass. Never saw him with a Mustang, but we all need to go short-scale now and again.

OK, I gotta ask - What was the name of the song ? - It will be the next one which I learn ! :smug:

As for the Shell Pink Mustangs - AFAIK like all other Fender and Squier stuff, US & European dealers are not allowed to sell to Canada, and those did not get released up here. :banghead: Maybe you could buy one at Chicago Music Exchange and bring it to Canada ?

Same with a limited run of Pink Broncos, I think it was.

Attached below are 3 photos of a thumb rest called The ThumbRocker in use on my Squier CV60 Mustang. It's designed to sit on top of a P-bass's pup, using the pup's upper screw to attach it. I used it very differently as you can see, and w/o any of it's supplied shims. Because I wanted it to be in the middle space between the fretboard's end and the pup, and so close to the strings it was almost under the E (like a partial ramp). And I also wanted the ThumbRocker's back to remain flat so I could mount it with strong 2-sided 3M tape...
IMO it's better than the usual standard 'Fender style' thumb rests because it is low enough that it doesn't interfere with the strings if it's used very close to or partially under them. Hopefully it will remain firmly seated with the tape used as the company doesn't supply a screw with it, but time will tell, we'll see...
Anyway if I find after some usage that I really like it a lot and it should break loose from the tape, then I could at that time drill a small hole for a screw-in arrangement.
-But I hope the tape works...

BTW, it cost's all of $5.99............ :smug:

Hello Mustang fans,

I hereby submit my new orange creamsicle...can I get a number?

I modded it out a bit: I swapped out the pickups with a hum cancelling set, installed hipshot ultra lights and bass xtender, custom pickguard, fun fret markers, and had the whole thing shielded because the noise it was making was heinous. But now it is nice and quiet and fun to play...and the light weight is much easier on my back!

Cool pg - is it a clear pg with a printed layer underneath?

Yeah. It's from Decoboom. The design is actually textured, but then they put a clear acrylic or whatever on top so it looks 3 dimensional but is smooth to the touch. I just hated that vaguely green stock pickguard that the bass came with...this one livens it up more and really makes the orange color pop.
