Fender Mustang Club

I'm now in the bought-but-waiting process of acquiring another bass; one that appears to be the exact opposite of my basic old school Squier Mustang... It's the Acinonyx 'Cat' bass and it has 4 push buttons for selecting combinations of it's two pups and their modes, and then another 4 push buttons for selecting tones. I've given up trying to figure how many different sounds these wide ranging options might present me with...
But I didn't buy the Acinonyx because of this and I suspect after a week or so of fussing around with all this ~wild~ stuff I'll probably just remember the one or two settings I like and stay with them. -I bought this bass because 1} it's short scale, 2} it has two Nordstrand pups, 3} it's weight averages out at around 6.5 lbs, 4} it already comes with a good Hipshot bridge and tuners, and 5} it's neck is raved about by all of it's current owners. It's compound radius, short scale neck has 17MM string spacing at the bridge and is only 1.4" at the nut, and is claimed to be the fastest and easiest neck to play anywhere by it's current owners!
Well, I'll soon find out about all this, right? -I've been bummed out by unmet expectations before so I'm hoping that won't be true this time...
Anyway it'll be my first 'boutique' style bass with highly rated pups since my 20 years-earlier bass days so I'm definitely excited by that! And while this 'Cat' bass might end up replacing my Mikro, it can't knock off my CV Mustang from it's place in my old school thumping heart! :cigar: -This Stang's definitely a keeper!! :laugh:

Yep - you'll probably be all like 'Wow - look at all these controls. What happens when I do this' at first. Then settle into a slot or two and stick there.
Nice to have different tonal options. I look more to fx/pedals for that though.

Playing the Mikro is indeed different from playing my slab Mustang, but IMO it's not better (or especially worse for that matter), it's just 'different'...

Exactly, in fact tomorrow I'm receiving a custom paulownia body from Guitar Mill that is a pure slab of a Mustang body with no contours, rounded over edges or routing other than the neck pocket. My goal is to make it more like my '51 P style slab bass with a slight edge roundover for the exact reasons you mention. I may put on a fancy walnut or koa top I've had for about 20 years waiting for the right project, or I may not.

Awesome cover! I'm curious what made you choose the Les Paul Jr DC tone over the Mustang P tone considering that the original was recorded with a Fender P bass (if I remember right)? I've always been curious and the Les Paul Jr DC bass. The bass sounds great!

Thank you!
I was going for a more aggressive tone and the Les Paul just sounded great with a pick. Plus, I had just gotten it the day before and wanted to play with my new toy .
My Mustang has the DiMarzio DP 126 P+J pickups in it and it just has a more darker tone, which I love but it wasn’t suited to this song so much.

I bought the same pickups for my Mustang PJ. I still haven't installed them yet though. I'm surprised that they might be darker than the Les Paul Jr DC bass pickups. Anyways thanks for your post! Your cover is awesome and you've got me going down the Chameleons rabbit hole right now. This video (although off-topic) is very interesting

I did enjoy! Your Mustang is gorgeous, and regardless of what you're playing in the recording, your sound is great. (I've always had a secret lust for an LP bass, but never owned one. Don't tell anyone. :bag: (Fender fanboi since 1966)).

I'm too lazy for pedals. And they scare me too! -Something else I might discover I like, then have to educate myself about, and then spend $$ on? -Complicate my life some more then? NahNahNahNahNah!!! I think I'll just stay lazy, ignorant, wealthier, and content... {-At least for now anyway?} :cigar:

And to be truthful here, a 'Cat' bass with push button tones, combined with an amp head with eq knobs, will be more than enough to saturate and overwhelm my addled old noggin... :confused: (-Adding pedals might just explode it!) :dead:
