Got it, and thanks again. :)

So I should add about 1/4" to what I see in the 2nd pic, which means that the headstock taper begins at maybe 34+1/8", which is very close to the published spec.

It would be interesting to have someone who has a regular medium scale set of LaBella DT Flats to do the same measurements and pics as you did, to see whether there is a further 1/4" of wrap before the headstock taper, to support the 34.25" spec which LaBella has published for those.

I have one such set [of their recently discontinued 760FL-M], but have not yet cut open the sealed package.

And also do it for the Hofner Beatle Bass sets, where LaBella says that they measure 34" even, at that point along the string.

Then we could confirm whether or not my substitution speculations hold water.

Needs a setup, and going to try the LaBella flats made for the Mustang (usually use TI flats)...the Fender flats that are on it seem kind of dead. I love the look and feel, but I recall my Daphne Blue JMJ from years ago having more "OOMPH" to it. Maybe a good setup and new strings will do the trick?

Any input on LaBella flats vs. TI flats?

I love the TI flats on the JMJ. Can still do the vintage thing but the extra mids make them more versatie

Maybe the strings were Roadworn too?

(actually could be a sales niche there for players who like the dead flats thump)

I strated out with the old Fender 9050 flats and used them for years. I tried TI flats on several basses when they first came out arlund here but I never got along with the low tension feel. On a couple of basses with single action trussrods the TIs didn't have enough tension to pull the neck into the relief I like.

I tried Labella flats and tapewounds and found them to sound kind of meh. I really liked GHS Precision Flats especially their feel and sound but they were hard to find locally (I didn't have internet then) so I switched to D'Addario Chromes for quite a while and then their nylon tapewounds when they became available and I've used the tapes ever since.

I gotta try the Precision Flats again.

LOL! -What a question...~You'll get a zillion different opinions on strings! The likes and dislikes as to what strings are "best" are so different and varied as to almost be meaningless... :spit: For instance on my Mikro the GHS Precision Flats sounded to me like they had socks on compared to the lively D'Addario Black tapes I replaced them with.. And on my string-thru CV Mustang the LaBella MUS flats just do an absolutely superb job!
~But continue reading some more posts on this subject, and for sure you'll find the exact opposite opinions, and they'll all be right also!

I'm glad to see L&M showing bassists some respect.

It looks like the Mustang sets are even in 8 of their physical stores in Ontario.

That said, I also wonder which other LaBella sets they are currently carrying ?

I just put a set of the regular short scale version of those [760FL-S, 43-60-82-104] onto another bass of mine a couple of weeks ago, and am pleased with feel, tone, and everything else, enough so to buy more LaBella products in general, and to recommend them.

If L&M actually stocks what I want, and if the price is close enough to what I've been paying to Strings by Mail and Strings and Beyond during the past several years, then I will give due consideration.

Back in the day, L&M got a LOT of my money, when they only had their original store on Yonge Street at Asquith, and then at their location on Bloor near Spadina.

EDIT :

Here is a listing of the LaBella bass strings which they say that they carry, and several are in stock online, but the ones which I mentioned above installing recently are shown though not in stock.

Can I join the club? Picked up a used Sonic Blue 2017 Mustang from GC. The previous owner had chromes on there which sound super sweet but I think rounds will work better for my needs. I’ll probably swap with my bronco.

I didn’t believe this was actually sonic blue until I compared it to my Olympic white mark hoppus bass. Seems super light in color but I dig it.
