Fender Mustang Club

27436205[/URL], member: 367476"]Did not tried aftermarket ones, but one thing, about "JMJ or similar". JMJ has Seymour Duncan custom shop ones - so they are not like "stock" ones in Vintera or Japan mustangs.
Just FYI, Seymour Duncan does have a custom shop and my impression is that the MJ winds most of those pups. She is amazing and makes lots of the custom pups for big name stars. I think she is requested by those folk as much as Seymour is. I can’t imagine that they would not replicate the JMJ pickup for you.

For the neck swappers that lurk around here- I'm finally getting around to refinishing my JMJ (I'm a weird guy, go figure) but am thinking about tossing the electronics and neck another body while that's happening so that my mustang isn't fully out of commission- does the JMJ neck fit well with other mustang bodies? what's your experiences? any mustang bodies that just don't fit with the JMJ neck at all?

Thanks for any wisdom y'all have.

Ive interchanged necks between PJ, JMJ, american performer and vintage 70s neck without issue. if you have a specific model in mind feel free to ask.

I knew you'd come through! I still wish finances had worked out on my end to snag that AmPerf with the JMJ neck on it from you several months back!

Specifically, it looks like I can grab a player mustang PJ body (with the bridge on it so I don't have to try and figure out the JMJ string through on that body) for pretty cheap locally. Would the JMJ neck fit on that one without too many issues, you think?

I think so, I haven't done that mount myself, but I had my 78 neck on the PJ body without issue. At worst you may need to sand the sides of the neck pocket a bit on the PJ body, which isn't a terrible job, I had done that to mate a neck and body in the past (non-Mustang).

To add one more data point, my PJ currently has a neck from a Pawn Shop Mustang (the humbucker-equipped version from the early-mid '10s). No compatibility issues. Assuming that MIJ reissues from the '90s and '00s have the same neck pocket, it sounds like all Mustang bass necks may be interchangeable.

I really don't need a fourth Mustang, but I've modded or refurbished my three existing Mustangs to the point where there's not much else I can do to improve them, and I'm starting to get bored.

If I were going to buy another, this is what I would do: start with a Vintera, strip the poly and refinish with translucent brown oil or nitro, and then add a black guard and a Bisonic pickup. Looks a bit like a Fender-Serek collaboration.

only caveat here is that at some point in the 70s for the original era mustangs the neck pocket got a bit narrower so a 70/80s body may not fit a modern neck but you can fit a neck from that era on a modern body with a small gap on the sides.

I have a '76 Mustang, but I've never actually tried switching the neck with those on my American Performer and PJ. I'd experiment for science, but I just got a professional setup on the '76.

Heads up that someone on Reverb is listing something pretty similar - Fender Vintera '60s Mustang Bass 2019 - Fiesta Red - Modded | Reverb

Well, a vintera mustang with a bisonic in it, not trans brown finished though

Yeah, I've seen that. I'm not on the market, but it looks great.

I actually converted a Pawn Shop Mustang with a Bisonic pickup, but I ended up selling it for cash a few years ago. The pickup sounded gorgeous and rich at home, but I did have some trouble hearing myself in the mix when playing with a band because it was very dark, even with the tone all the way up. If I were doing it again, I'd talk to a custom pickup maker and see whether there was any way to get more tonal variety.

Well, I assembled the JMJ-Vintera. All JMJ, except the Vintera body and I used an ebony "thumbrest" I had in the bin. I'm pleased with the look; the lightly "aged" hardware and pickguard don't show up well in pics, but look nice in person. I don't really love painted bodies, relicced (sic?) or not, but I am the last Sunburst lover on the planet, so that's "why". Still messing with dialing it in...
