My Mustang in Ketchikan.

I didn't actually weigh them but, going by the info I researched, the Hipshots saved about 5-6 oz. It may not seem that much but, coming off the end of the neck, it did help the balance. I will try to get a more accurate weight this weekend.

I was able to weigh the 4 stock tuners and hardware from my Mustang PJ today.

They were........................... 13.00 oz. (accurate to +/-.03 oz).

4-Hipshot 3/8 Mini Clovers.......6.36 oz. (according to manufacturer's web site).

Weight Savings.......................6.64 oz.

I’ve got to get rid of that switch. It’s putting a hole in my Mono case.

That’s over my head mechanically right now. I trust the tech at the local GC. I’m going to go talk to him.

Which Mono case are you using for your Mustang PJ? I have the Vertigo for electric guitar which fits one of my short scale basses, but it's too tight for the Mustang in the headstock area.

Bought a box of parts of at a yard sale Friday. These stacked center indent pots were in the box.

Here they are before I cleaned them up




And after





Here are the two resistors in cap that were on them



Is there a way to check the resistors and cap with a multimeter to see if they are still good ? Or should I just toss them and get new ones since they're so cheap ?

Also is there a way to test the pots with a meter ?

And finally is there any application on a Mustang PJ for these style pots ?

So after a few weeks, I picked up "Fred" the Fender Mustang today. Tone rider P pickup, Fender hi mass bridge, new bone nut and stacked pots. I`m well pleased and it plays really well. The only thing is what to do with the hole where the switch was? Answers on a postcard please to the usual address!

Just noticed you can`t see the stacked knobs but they are stacked!

The only thing is what to do with the hole where the switch was? Answers on a postcard please to the usual address!

I thought of doing that but on this side of the pond, it`s about £70 for one so I might have to wait a bit as I blew my spare cash on the upgrades. Your bass looks fantastic with that finish. A really nice job.

Thanks! I really like the way it turned out...much better than the surf pearl it was born with.

How do you find the tonal variations with the stacked setup vs. the stock, 3 way switch?

I run the P up full and the J about half way which give me the tone I`m looking for. The reason I changed the set up is I didn`t like the 3 way switch set up. The switch itself wasn`t very good quality and it is in a stupid place for my playing style. And I`m more a P bass player anyway but adding in the J just seems to tighten the sound up for me.

Thanks for the info. Like you, I prefer the P sound and agree about the switch. I am thinking about the stacked knob but also the volume blend pot referred to recently by @Paulabass.

I had a spare pickguard hole on another bass and found a pin badge that looked good and used that. The back held it in place and easy to swap around if you fancy a change.
