This Douglas case should work for all the Mustang basses except the CIJ series. For some reason those bodies are almost 1" longer than the old and new USA, or MIM series. That may be why Fender's newer, short scale bass hard cases are 2" longer than the original hard cases from the 70's. One size fits all. Seems like all the Mustangs since then are only offered with a gig bag as standard issue. Add $200 for a Fender hard case. Sometimes you can find a nice new/used one or a B-stock for around $150. I'll continue to buy these until Douglas starts making the full size, short scale bass case. That's my story and I'm sticking to it.

The total length is perfect, tip of the headstock is just short of the foam. The bass body rests on the bottom edge at the strap button then goes at a small angle upwards till the neck pocket so the headstock is just slightly raised. When you lower the lid, it hits the tuners with maybe a 1/4" left to press down to close the lid. I'm glad you brought this up because I didn't notice it.
That said, I didn't buy this case for the JMJ, I bought it to mod to fit my recently completed Mustang makeover which includes a home built body with an extended upper horn for better balance. The new body is 1.5" longer than the stock Mustang so I knew I'd have to rework the cases neck pocket and compartment anyway. While I'm doing that, I'll take a 1/4" off the height of that whole assembly. It's just screwed in through the sides and easy to remove.
Didn’t check this (entire) thread... maybe this has already been presented... just picked up a Gruv Gear Sliver FOR GUITAR... fits CIJ Mustang perfectly! I also ordered a coupla padded ‘spacers’ to add- for headstock & neck protection.

Nice looking case- I had one of the (black) Douglas’s mentioned above (for a Squier VM Mustang I have since sold... twice
)- was a good quality case!
... on another note- does anyone have a ‘real review’ of these? I’ll do a search- but just thought I’d ask, here, as well.

What a difference a year makes. In my case not much. I stumbled across a post from a year go and there was the answer as to the tuner issue which hasn't changed. HB10's for drop in HB6c 3/8 for lightening the load. As was also pointed outlast year the HB10's are significantly lighter than the stock tuners and may be able to pull double duty. Thanks all sorry to take up thread space.

Yep, I do. I replaced the stock humbucker in my Pawn Shop with one in March, and I couldn't be happier. I had a new pickguard made by Pickguardian and installed the NM4 myself. I can't compare it to a stock Mustang pickup, but I can say that the description on the website is accurate to my ears. I just replaced the D'Addario Nickel Wounds I had on with the humbucker with a set of D'Addario Half Rounds, and I'm thrilled with the combination.
yeah, those nm4's come highly recommend, i've not used them, but may in the vintera mustang
hey aladinsane, i'd buy the old wide range humbucker if you ever want to sell it, your bass looks freaking great by the way! the competition stripe on these just rocks, that blue against the white just pops
I've had my pawn shop one for a couple of years now, i looked for 6 months for the white one, came across the sunburst one, bought it, then had a guy in nashville strip and give it the white and blue love, have seen at least 12 of them for sale in the last 2 years though, lol

Thx! I’ve used D’Addario half-rounds on a few of my (34” scale) basses- are nice strings! The CIJ Mustang I just purchased has Labella flats- gonna go with those for awhile- but thinking I’m gonna change pu soon! (have a set of Hipshot Lollipops on order

Thanks, Man! I think I'm going to hang onto the humbucker and stock pickguard in case I ever sell the bass, but if I change my mind, I'll definitely let you know!
The specific Mustang's mentioned in the reviews were MIM-PJ, MIJ, and JMJ, models. I really hesitate to say "Since they are Mustangs it should be fine" because we have all witnessed where that has gone. In the review it was emphasized to ensure that they were in line not side by side. At the end it was mentioned that the Grover Vintage 142C4 machine heads were drop in as well but there was not a lot of specifics. Hoping to not cause anymore stir those are the tuners that came stock on my SG Standard bass. I didn't say the G word!

That is exactly why I waffled with a direct answer. Hipshot support has been wonderful to me on every occasion I have contacted them. I am real glad you decided to contact them.
Keep us informed. I keep a mod binder to keep his type of info on hand. Never know when the big EMF pulse might hit ;€)

I'm not in a position to make a purchase at the moment, but once I am, I'll reach out to them. I never noticed a problem keeping my bass in tune with the stock tuners in the past, but for some reason I'm having an issue with the new strings.
You actually bring up a interesting point. I also hadn't had a issue with the stock tuners either until somewhat recently. I initially chalked it up to RA advancing, old age, and Dain Brammage. But looking back it seems it started around the time I changed to flats because the rounds cut my fingers. It could be all the above. I will bring that up with my guitar playing Doc and my bass teacher. Interesting!

Wow! Yes, please do! I wonder if the round wounds grip the tuner posts better and if we'd have the same situation on our hands no matter which tuners we used. I'll stay tuned for your response after you talk to your guy! [See what I did there...? ;-)]
