Fender Mustang PJ upgrades

.....Just got the Sienna Burst "Player" recently and haven't yet modded anything, but am definitely going to do something about the annoyingly-located toggle which tends to throw itself on my thigh when I play seated (most of the time).....

I replaced the toggle switch with a blend knob on mine. Like it much better now.
Also threw in a set of Dimarzio pickups and replaced the strings with D'Addario flat chromes.
I'm stopping there with it, because it's just about perfect for me now.

Have thought about doing that, but haven't gotten around to it yet.

Don't use the bridge pup on this bass much, neither by itself nor with the split P. I've used DP123s and DP127s in other basses: nice pups. So far, I'm OK with the stockers in this bass. Maybe down the road...

replaced the strings with D'Addario flat chromes.
Have those on most of my basses except for the vintage Guild SF which had TIs on it when I found it. I left the factory rounds on the Player because all my other basses are strung with flats, including an MIJ Mustang (Chromes ECB81M). Kind of like having at least one strung with rounds, though I generally do prefer flats.

Reliving this post as I've read it thoroughly to actually create my custom shop Player II Mustang Bass. So long story short, I was a bit undecided to whether to go with the Squier Classic Vibe Mustang or the Player II Version just because of the looks (and somehow I still do) but at the end as I had a Pure Vintage 58 laying around at home, I decided to put it to a good use and have a more varied tonal selection.

So the upgrades I decided to make:
Stock Pickups -> Fender Pure Vintage 58 P, Seymour Duncan STK J2B (This one is AWESOME), checked out pickup height so they are even
Aliexpress Performance Tortoise Pickguard -> Fits like a dream
Pots and Wiring -> Instead of the default modification of swapping out the toggle switch or use it as the producer switch, I asked my bass tech to set up a set of electronics of Volume / Tone (With OD 0.047) / 4-way Rotary Switch (PJ Series, P, PJ Parallel, J)
Racing Stripe (Still not sure if it will remain there, but aesthetically looks somewhat cool
Strings: GHS Precision Flatwound Short Scale (these guys were a surprise!)

And I believe that would be it, I started to consider swapping out the bridge with my P-Bass because it has a Hipshot Fender style bass (like the ones used by Mike Lull) so I give this Mustang a better look and bring the ashtray back to the P-Bass, but not sure yet.

Have to say I'm in love with these short scale basses ! (and I'm 6'4" lol)

That’s pretty sweet! Love the rotary switch concept!
Thanks!
Just came back from rehearsal and got to say that having that many options was absolutely fantastic, as well as the PV 58 + STK J2 is a perfect match (at least to myself). The option to switch between songs, depending on needs from PJ Series to P on its own to PJ Parallel opened a new window for the band! As well as how easy it is to fly through the neck with a short scale (am used to my Edwards PBass and the Fender JB)

I wanted to make a sort of mirror image to by Geddy Lee Jazz Bass with my Mustang. In these pictures the mods are:

Black Hipshot HB7 tuners
Black Gotoh 2-1-B Bridge
Black MusicLilly string guide
Black Pick Guard and Control cavity cover
Black Block Position markers vinyl stickers
Black Faux binding around the neck made with auto pinstripe tape

Being installed right now (in the shop)
Seymour Duncan Quarter Pounder P/J pickups
Tusq Bone nut
CTS pots:
Master Volume with push/pull switch between series and parallel
Concentric (stack) pot for bass and tone control (Top treble, bottom bass)
Switchcraft 3 position switch
