I have a set of GZRs to install but haven’t gotten around to it. One of my goals is to do away with the switch. I hope to accomplish this by using a stacked V/V pot. This way I’ll be able to blend the pickups the way I want. Not a fan of the switch, all switches in general and specifically Fender’s. I’ll post details when I get it finished.

Would there be room (and wire length) to put one of the pots in the position of the pickup selector? For instance having both the knobs by the bridge be volume knobs and then putting the tone knob on the lower horn?

There would be two issues. The route for the switch is small and rectangular. You would have to check if a Pot would fit. Also, the wire would go all the way from the Pot to the output jack, have to plan for that.

I look forward to your results, specially how you deal with the pickguard switch hole.

It seems like you can get a 13" output jack wire. The rout could be problematic, although I imagine you might be able to drill out a little space under the pickguard.

Not sure what pickups your putting in but if not EMG a mini pot may fit, if EMG I would enlarge the space to fit the pot, just have to make sure it doesn’t show outside the pickguard, just use a dremel tool with a routing bit

Has anyone installed the Gotoh 201B Bridge on their new Mustang PJ and had problems getting the action low enough? I am looking to upgrade the bridge and like the look of that bridge. What bridge works best as an upgrade? Thanks!

I've thought about changing the bridge on my PJ but decided not to after using it for couple of weeks. What do you find lacking in the bridge that makes you want to change it?

So I just installed the sd spb-4 and left the jazz stock. When. I'm in the middle position of the switch, the volume drops and the sound gets "tinny", but only in the middle. Have anyone had this problem before?

Make sure you have the spb-4 white wire going to selector switch and the black wire going to the back
of a pot or to ground.

I did. I checked all the ground and found the ground lug wire wasn't connected to the ground pot. So I soldered that, but it sounds like the middle and last position are both the jazz pup.[/QUOT

Does it still sound tinny?
Ok, you can check your pickups using a screwdriver like this guy on youtube.

I did the same thing with a DiMarzio P and left the stock jazz pickup in. Had a similar result.
The P sounded fine alone, and the J did too.
But with the switch in the middle position, using both pickups, it sounded like crap.

I'm wondering if the stock pickups are somehow matched to work together.
Don't know much about it, but I'm thinking like maybe the amount of windings, the thickness of the wire,
the strength of the magnets or maybe something else was causing it to not work right together.

I took it out and put the stock one back in and it sounds fine now.
I probably should have gotten a matched P/J set from the same manufacturer.
It's not a loss though, I'm going to use that pickup in another bass.

Sounds like pickups are cancelling each other out, can reverse the wires on one of them
