Fender nutdog signature Precision Lyte

I've been practicing alone with it and just got back from a rehearsal so it was the fist time with a group. I hadn't played it much over the last couple of years and forgot how nice it felt. Now it plays nice, sounds nice and looks nice. I don't know if I'll be playing the other basses for a while.:hyper::bassist::hyper::bassist:

Thanks. I pretty much stole ideas from a variety of basses I liked and avoided things I didn't. It was going to be sonic blue or surf green then I saw daphne on reranch and it seemed like a cross between the two. Plus the hot scooby chick probably was a sub conscience influence. Then I saw the caddy pic. Reranch said fender got the color from GM and it was only offered on the 58 Cadillac.

The tv logo is the coolest and so are the lollipops (IMO). The PG drew from the 51 P and a jazz. The knobs were as close as I could find to chrome hubcaps and tires. Wish they had white walls. :D

I went with the emg system because it didn't require soldering or grounding. JimmyM said they worked well in his lyte. I think another battery will go in to try 18v but I was in a hurry to get her going.

Overall I was hoping for a suped-up retro hot rod look with versatile sound.

Beautiful job man, that came out great! I'm torn though as to whether I prefer the new version or the original (my mum looked at it though and went 'wow that's really cool! I really like that' and she couldn't care less about basses haha) but either way, that's perfectly styled.

Seriously, that bass just rocks. :bassist: Strong work nutdog!! Great color and design choices. Fender could sell a lot of these in retro pastels. And it is such a great-sounding bass to begin with. I can only imagine the thunder you're getting with EMG electronics. Sound clip perhaps??

Have you tried TI JF344 strings? My plain old mahogany P Lyte Deluxe seems to love them.

Great pickguard design. Most people - even professional luthiers fail at finding a tasteful balanced shape. Fact is, it looks better than either of Leo's P-pickguards.

I agree with Handyman. I can't believe you made that model look good.

I really appreciate that because I put a fair amount of effort into it. I like the early P pickguard except I've never understood the overlap of the control plate. Roger made a template that used the modern P tail around the control plate but I didn't want to hide anymore of that pretty blue.
