Fender p bass or Ernie ball stingray

Easy answer: Give the Fender to me and keep the Ray...lol
Actually my 1-1/2 cent is keep what feels and plays best to you.
I actually would replace the SPB-3 with either the SPB-1 or SPB-4.....they seem to cut through the mix for me and have punch and clarity.

Glad you have 2 basses worth keeping though...

Actually, you need 4 bass guitars. A Fender Precision single coil. A Fender Precision dual coil. A Fender Jazz Bass and a Musicman Stingray! Story over. Bass guitar heaven!

Keep the stingray and get a cheap p. You can get a great sounding p for $250, you can't get a great sounding stingray for $250.

Ha ha... I don't envy your dilemma. You're trying to pick one bass out of the two basses that each have the most distinct sound in the entire bass world.
Answer is hock a lung and keep both.

Just listened again with better headphones. What a great example of the two different tones these basses have. The Precision is full and lush and classic precision tone, but does get swallowed up a few times. The stingray just cuts. Admittedly I go back and forth, and just sold my MIJ precision for a EBMM 2band SUB.

Keep both. Each bass will have its sonic signature in the different music settings you will have.
Sometimes, it will be a Fender day, another EB Stingray. So have both--you already do!

What's up everyone! Im new to this site and I wanted to know everyone's opinion. I own 2 bass guitars and I can't justify having both at the moment so I have to choose which to keep. I currently own a American pro fender p bass and a Ernie ball musicman stingray 4. Here's what I've come up with: Fender is a fender it has the traditional bass sound and you can't go wrong. Ernie ball has that signature sound you either love or hate. I personally feel the stingray stands out more and cuts through in a band better. I've had many compliments on my stingray played through a Ampeg svt CL with 8x10. I'm stuck between loving the way the fender looks and feels vs the stingray sound. Also in the fender I have the Seymour Duncan quarter pounder installed. I just feel like the fender doesn't have as much balls as the Ernie ball. Please let me know your thoughts and opinions . Here's both my guitars!

Only you can decide which one you prefer, although it looks like you side with the Stingray more. I play mostly a Stingray and when it's not that, it's a Precision or P/J. I think the Stingray fits any style if I want it to, and I love how it feels, plays and sounds... so the Stingray is the one bass I'd save from a fire while watching the rest burn. But you may feel differently. Both basses can be used very well for any style, really.

As far as myself I think prefer the stingray sound a little better. I know I can't go wrong with either I'm just wondering a lot of people play the p bass over the stingray and it doesn't matter to me but what I wanna know is why? What am I missing? So far in this post that I made people seem to like the stingray more but out there in the big world it's always fender p bass and nothing else.

I don't play punk.
But if I did, and my band mates liked the active Stingray, I'd play the Stingray.
My bandmates like the P-sound, so that's what I play when I'm playing with them.
I have owned, and like both for what they do.

I will say this I've never heard anyone say anything bad about a p bass and I myself have never heard a p bass live sound like crap. I have heard people either love or hate the stingray sound. I've been lucky that people that I know love that sound. I guess for the stingray you have to have a ear for that sound.

Honestly the fender feels better but I just can't get over that stingray sound.

Funny, as that is precisely why my Ray gets very little up time. I love the fit and finish, but can't get over that Stingray sound.

I recommend keeping the precision. I think the sound is a little more universal which would be beneficial when having only one bass. The downside is that it's obviously less of a unique sound than the StingRay. Sure the 'Ray cuts through more but in my experience, that's not always desirable.
