Fender p bass or Ernie ball stingray

When I think Punk rock and stingray, I think or MXPX. Keep the Stingray.
I always end up here, with a fender I'd change the bridge and possibly the pickups and the only music man I'm 100% totally and completely down with is the old smoothie, therefore I continue to play the custom G&L LB100 while wondering if old smoothie could displace the vintage L2000
Heres 2 clips of my band playing the same song but I'm using the fender in one and the stingray in the other. The venues were different so the sound quality is night and day.

Just as expected, P sounds fuller to me, ray cuts like a mofo though.
I love the ray tone in a punk/post hardcore album by At The Drive In - Relationship Of Command. But even Paul Hinojos switched to a P now lol.. And it sounds fantastic again.
I'm a bit biased, preferring the tone of a P bass, but I will say, that ray tone sounded really unique and awesome in Relationship Of Command. So you can't really lose either way man.

There are other combinations - my '93 StingRay is the best of all worlds - gloss birdeye neck, 2-band EQ, mute bridge and contoured body. For my money there's no P in the world that can compete with that.
If you like the Stingray sound my advice would be to go with the Stingray, save up a few $$ and get the frets worked on later. I had mine Plekked some years ago and it plays better than any bass I've ever owned.

I can't even begin to tell you how many times I've gone back and forth between these two basses, or how many of each I've owned! I'm a sucker for both. I love single-pickup, no nonsense distinct tones, and these both deliver.
^ This is me 100%. I have a USA SUB Stingray that I've played exclusively for at least 5 years now, but the slab body is starting to take its toll on my right wrist and arm, and I like the more forward playing position of the P.
Enter the Cutlass. I played one a few weeks ago and it was absolutely killler. The blend of the P and Stingray I was always waiting for (although more on the P side obviously). I'm holding out to see if they do a 5-string for a 1-bass solution, since that seems to be how I roll.

Also, you could mod your P and get a Music Man pickup hole routed near to the sweet spot as possible, install the MM pickup and a defeatable 2 band preamp , and Bob's your uncle.
Keep the P bass and replace the pickup with something that sounds better. I respect the QP as having a sound that is very easy to distinguish from other pickups, but it's not very diverse or pleasing to my ears. The stock Am Pro pickups are infinitely better imo. I'd just put those back in.
You like the Ray. You seem to be somewhat swayed by the Fender name on your P bass. I say keep the Ray, you like the sound better, which means you will miss it more when it's gone. Very easy to find another P bass down the road.
Sell both and get an L2000... I honestly miss my ASAT more and more because it had the perfect combination of tones.
But I still say keep the Sting Ray. Or the P. Damn this is hard!
