Fender Performer series

I added a Black Hipshot bridge to match with the pickguard. Looks rad!

I was very disappointed to get the Fender Deluxe gig bag with it...nothing Deluxe about it.....no padding around the bottom of the bass

Lately I have been looking at Fenders, it would seem to me if you put that much money into a bass you should get a hard case. That’s to bad about your soft shell case, that’s good to know.

Yeah, that is the one disappointment for me with this series, or in fact any Fender bass that costs more than a few hundred bucks. One of my pet peeves is offering sub-standard or no protection for new instruments, and while Fender isn't the only manufacturer that does this, they are certainly one of the biggest offenders. Fender Players don't even have a gig bag FFS! The above gig bag is the only one offered with any Fender bass that comes with one.

I actually don’t want another hard case, when needed I already have a few that fit Fender’s, and whichever one I’m taking to a gig goes into a good protec anyway. Hard shells take up too much space imo, and when a bass is not in use, it’s more than fine kept in a soft case.

I agree...but at the least I expect a bit of foam protection around the bottom

The reason why I'm interested in this series is the specific features, not necessarely the price.
I like the surf green satin finish, I like the lightweight body, I'm also intrigued by the greasebucket tone control (never tried one). I don't need another hard case, but that's another story.
The lack of interest in this series here on TB is making me think, honestly. They've been around since I while now, right?

The guitars have been getting love over at thegearpage and tdpri (telecaster forum). Not sure why the basses aren't.
I expected the basses to be loved (or hated) here honestly. Last post before mine was dated April 5th, and these basses are fairly new. Maybe there's another bigger thread about the same series and we all missed that? It's really strange, only 4 pages of comments and lack of replies for a brand new Fender series.

I tried both satin surf green and arctic white. I really loved the satin surf green color, but didn't like how it felt when you touch the body. The arctic white is so white that it pops out as well. It also comes with a real rosewood fingerboard (not Pau Ferro), so I got the arctic white one as I have way too many basses with maple fingerboard. The pick ups and greasebucket tone circuit produce a very nice tone to my ears, but definitely a little more modern than vintage jazz tone. The satin neck feels very slick. The build quality is very good, on par with my 2011 American Deluxe.

I don't care too much about looks but I already have a white bass, an olympic white Fender Am Pro P bass. I always loved the surf green color to death and it fits perfectly the jazz bass body shape imho. I can't find one locally so I can't touch the finish, but it looks sooooo damn good, man.
I'm more interested about the pickups, electronics, and tone control. How does it sound?
I'm mostly a P guy, I also have a MM Caprice (PJ) and I just want to add a third bass to my collection. A "real" Jazz bass seems the most natural choice. If it works well, I could use both my P and J with rounds and use the PJ with flats to approximate both tones, but mellower, if you know what I mean.

I have the arctic white Performer Jazz, and it's definitely my #1 bass right now. I think the pickups sound fantastic, but they are not for lovers of the pure vintage tone. They do have a more modern tone overall, but it's still a Jazz bass. The tone circuit was hit and miss for me at first, but I actually quite like it now. So, this bass is not for the purely vintage tone folks. Also, the quality on mine is fantastic......tight neck pocket, lovely rosewood board, no fret issues, finish looks awesome. And, lightweight. I haven't weighed it, but it's definitely the lightest bass I own.

I can't really comment on the lack of interest in these basses, but I personally don't worry about that too much. If you can't find one locally, then see if you can find one online through a dealer with a good return policy and order one. If you don't like it, return it.
