I believe you may be right,my Indonesia made Sire bass and squier cv 70s jazz bass are on par with, if not better then the mim stuff. Upgrade the hardware and they are real players! The Mexican factory is falling behind its Far East counterparts in terms of QC. The Squiers coming out of the China factory are exceptional.
Try looking for a Fender Modern Player series bass. Those were made in the same factory as the Crafted in China Squier Classic Vibe but with a Fender on the headstock. They should be around $650 ish, give or take.I’m just bitter because I wish there was a model that had everything the CV had bit with a satin neck and fender on the headstock for like $650 usd. Doesn’t have be made in Mexico, can be made anywhere.
That I would buy brand new.

It’s just the little stuff like the neck pocket gap, how “solid” the body feels, and in the case of the Paranormal Jazz and Jaguar H the pickups are surprisingly good. Can you elaborate on that? In what way are the Chinese Squiers more impressive?

On my 2020 Classic Vibe 60s P, the fretwork and the neck overall was super impressive but the body felt… lacking. Like it was hollow. There wasn’t any neck dive though, it just didn’t feel solid.
Overall I am truly impressed with Squiers, regardless of country of origin. They have come a long, long way since I held and played my first Squier which was an early 2000s Squier 51.
..Fender needs to step it up and get out of the comfort zone...
Exactly. Two years ago I was able to buy an excellent condition MIM Deluxe PJ (the Seafoam Green one) for $495 shipped. I was so surprised to see it retail for like $1099 or something when I went to Guitar Center last week.People are crazy enough to buy those at that prices I guess.
Fender Player Plus MIM = Fender Performer MIA price. I pay my P Performer 1.099,00 €. Now cost 1.199,00 €. Nonsense.
