Fender pre-CBS Club: pics mandatory!

I'm talking about basses that I own and love. Everything is good except for the amount of signal coming out of the pickup, which I don't think makes a bass a dud, I just think it is normal for older instruments. I've replaced the pickups on my "player" vintage precisions and am using this pedal with my '64. It is looking like I am the odd one out in this group re: my expectations on output.
I'll just chime in here and say that my '63 has strong output. Like others said, you can adjust pole piece distance from the strings. Also, test the strength of the pickups. Maybe get them re-wound if needed. My two basses are my 63 P and my Stingray 5. And I honestly don't really notice much of a difference in output between the two. It would annoy me to have to use a boost pedal to get the output I needed for regular playing.

That's also a '64 P-bass--I have two--the 3TS is original finish and the CAR is a refin. I bought the 3TS a few years before the CAR, didn't intend to get another '64 but a friend was selling the CAR and it was too nice to let it slip away so I bought it too!

Cool. How differently or similarly do they play/sound? I always wonder if other '63 P's sound similar to mine but don't get any chances to A/B a pair.
They're very similar to each other in tone, feel, playability, everything. Deep powerful low/mids with clear highs, classic early 60's P-bass tone, not middy like the 70's P-basses, wide and flat necks front to back with low action, very easy to play all up and down the neck. Both necks are razor straight too and the wood must be petrified at this point because they never move.

Nice. We need to have a Pre-CBS bass meet up one of these days where we can play each others instruments.
That's one of the reasons why I had to have it (besides tone and playability, of course).
