You do know that a smilie indicates a joke don't you? So, to answer your question... Yes, I was kidding and you can untwist your knickers.

Just for the record, I've played 7 RWs. A couple were good, one wasn't very good at all, and the rest were so-so, but none were what I would consider great. Just the typical range of quality I've found in all production instruments over the last 40+ years of playing and gigging.

I started on a MIM P then upgraded I believed to a MIA Jazz. Sold the P and a Trace Elliot Ben "18" Cab and head for it back in 2000:rollno: That's when my troubles started. I spent years trying to adjust to the width and spacing of a Jazz neck. When I was just missing my P:bawl:

Now am back with a vengeance on a P buying storm; 90's Steve Harris P, then the Squire Classic Vibe 60's P, just order the AV 57 and I tried the RW P last weekend at GC:hyper: NICE really nice:cool: Its going on the list:D

I've only picked one up in a music shop, they certainly look the part, but so expensive for a Mexican instrument, do they sound great? Mexican Fenders are getting more adventurous it seems, last year I played a really rather good Joe Strummer Tele made in Mexico. I still think the Squire Classic Vibe series may well represent the best value for money, particularly for those who dont like the worn in from new look.

I figure it is a good think I have only been able to find RW Jazz. It was good, but I already have a Jazz bass, so I wasn't all that hurt about not getting one. Now, if I run across a RW P...my bank account may get a little lighter. I think they look awesome and if they play and sound as good as everyone says they do, its all over for me.

Fender puts out some killer basses... I have an older one, a '78 P/J and that bass sounds killer. Maple neck, ashe body,, heavy but the tone is amazing. Have a '62 reissue J-bass and that bass is also awesome. I use them 200-250 gigs a year and they always sound great. I have a couple of Mexi P's and J's that sound good and travel well but don't sound like my Americans.... they have tone that all the others try to emulate. I have a friend with a couple of Sadowskys with all the goodies on them... vey nice basses for sure. Alas, I am, and always will be, a Fender guy. The P bass is STILL the most recorded instrument of them all. I'll stick with mine that really is road worn.

I have yet to try one of these but this topic has inspired me to pick one up. I'm hoping that I'll be able to sneak up to La Crosse, WI to visit Dave's Guitar Shop. They have one of the Road Worn Precisions in stock. It's been a while since I've been up that way to try out basses.

I would love to see a matching Road Worn P and J set with an Olympic White finish, vintage tinted neck, dark rosewood fingerboard with pearl blocks and white binding, and a dark tort guard to finish off the look. I suppose the same configuration would be great to see in a non-reliced bass, too. ;)

I know that feeling! I tried so hard to replace my first P. I went through many, many basses until I picked up an SX P-J. I knew then what my problem was. I missed my P! A Highway 1 found it's way into my place the other night. :ninja:

Speaking of, I'm spying Highway 1's going for as low as $500 on craigslist. Musician's Friend has them for $749. That's absurd! (Did they avoid the hikes?) I loves me a maple neck, but my HW1 is naturally road worn (I'd prefer to be the one to beat my basses up, but still) and I got it for the equivalent for $440. I could get 2 of these puppies for one RW MIM. I'll take what I got and maybe a backup. :D

I'm a P-Guy, and have owned a few old 60's P-basses.
I've not tried the "Road worn " P-bass yet.
But, walked into a store, and tried a 1963 Road Worn Jazz. (Fiesta Red)
I was floored.
The weight, feel, playability, tone.
As good as any Jazz I've played at twice the price.
Had to buy it.
And,after a month, I still can't put it down.
I'm gassing hard for a matching Fiesta Red P-Bass. (Very soon)
Fender got this one right.
These basses will just get better with age.
