fender price hike.. or not?

I don't think Fender expected the economic meltdown. Just to see how ou of touch they are, look at some of their recent Sig models..."I'm so itching for a Jimmy Eat World" sig...
Gibson too. Foresight, foresight, foresight. I think some of the guys in charge are wondering what the hell just happened. Who the hell is running their endorsements?
An Alien Ant Farm sig? Gimme a break.

They are cashing in on the recent Guitar Hereo trend...
it has somehow inspired the young'ns to rock...after playing Guitar Hero on a Best Buy kiosk. THAT is foresight, IMO.

and have you seen the shape the guitar hero controller are in at those kiosks?

are you going to buy a $1k+ instrument that has been abused by every 10 year old in a 30 mile radius?

Fenders Price increase is has been instated. They are telling dealers to sell at the new price. Not everyone has their prices changed already, but I hear that they will have them changed soon. As a company we adhere to agreements with both manufacturers and customers. If fender changes their prices we respect them enough to change ours when they ask us to. On the other hand, if we tell a customer that we are going to do something, we do it.

To further clarify, it turns out that not all models experienced a price increase either. The majority of the models did have a price increase, but some, like the American Standard PBass line did not, at least for now...

I could be wrong, but when I was looking through a new Frontline magazine recently, I could have sworn that they also raised their list prices on the American Standards. Unfortunately, I don't have it here to look it up. I know the '75 Reissue Jazzes went up again, along with almost everything else. Maybe you're right about the P's though. I just can't remember.

Predictably, The Perfect Bass now has the 2009 basses priced accordingly and being sold alongside the 2008 basses (also priced accordingly). It's like I'm a soothsayer.

Just a tip for Canadian shoppers ... I went to two Long & McQaudes - a 30 minute drive apart - on the same day.

Burlington had the MIA '08's at $1,250 (I bought mine six months before at that location - $1,149 sticker price but paid $999 due to a slight imperfection in the finish on the back).

The Mississauga store has them at $1,575. Maybe Missisauga had '09's, but it is the same bass and I doubt they cleared all their '08s.

Maybe I caught them in the middle of changing the price tags or something, but with the price confusion, definitely shop around even within the same chain of stores!!

It's not that obvious. If you look at the Fender summary page, the old prices are still shown. If you click on a particular instrument, the newer instruments have the new higher prices in their listing.

Just got the word today from a GC salesman....Fender prices ARE GOING UP....UP..get a new one now was the suggestion.......so I did!
One can say it was only a sales pitch but..........I know this person an dhave delt with him on many occasions...so I trust what he said. but we'll see won't we?:ninja:

Thanks - that's weird. But those links show maple v. rosewood, not 2008 v. 2009. And they are both selling for the same cheaper price at the bottom of the page. It's just that the maple neck bass has a higher price in the middle of the page, whereas the rosewood does not. But that just could be a mistake (ie they went to the higher price and then back down again).

How do we know this means there's actually a price hike for 2009 models? Could be, but I don't see how you get there based on those links.

All I know is that I just bought an MIM P at $475 and the guy running the counter said that if it hadn't been hanging on the wall for a while before the price hike I would have paid $620 for it. He also thought the price hike was being done in a really shady way and thought there was something more to it

Someone here mentioned that they just sacked their CEO, and that could have something to do with it.

Fender is a large company, and while its improbable, I think this might be an internal snafu. Perhaps the old CEO instituted the price hike, and after he was fired, prices were to stay the same. However due to previous said snafu, maybe there was exceedingly poor communication and the 'new' prices went out anyways.

The prices might be for after Summer NAMM or even 2010.
