Fender price increase

A Fender P cost about $375 in 1970, that's nearly $3000 in today's money.
Isn't an American performer about $1500?

I can't verify this, but I've recently heard rumors that there may be another company or 2 out there, besides Fender, that make guitars and basses. They may or may not charge as much. You'd have to look into it.
FWIW, I know what it's like to have my heart set on something particular that was just a hair out of my reach, financially. What I've done in the past is:
-Sell something
-Bust my hump at work and earn a raise
-Bust my hump to establish credit and take out a small loan, or get a CC
-Do side work.
-Simply went without it altogether or went with a more affordable alternative.
There's always a solution. Complaining was never one of them.

- meditating on it
- believing in self fulfilling prophecies
- manifesting (think it into existence)
Yeah it's a weird thing how somehow Fender gear is perceived as snobbish at times, when in truth Fender has historically always been the "workingman's guitar"..."the 2X4 guitar"...the mass-produced, screwed-together, "affordable alternative" to the other much more expensive USA-made guitars down through the years (Gibson, Gretch, Rickenbacker, Guild, to name a few).
I guess it's the inevitable paradigm progression, once the uber-cheap imports arrived from places that practically use slave labor and commit hideous environmental abuses in order to "compete".
So now apparently, playing a Fender is "gear snobbery", but playing a Chinese Squier is "socially and environmentally responsible"?
But wait....how do the Glarry and SX fans view the Squier players?....as gear snobs?
I can't think Fender would allow for people to advertise this without their consent (maybe Australia doesn't have MAP rules like the US does?).
They raised prices in the US recently. I recall the American Pro II jazz jumped from $1,400 to $1,600 right around this time last year, iirc.
Yes, I do not get why Fender gets so much hate for being "overpriced", when every other American made instruments from other companies are even pricier, and often get a pass. Perhaps I am wrong. But I think there's not an American made bass under $1,000, new from factory; Fender or anyone else. Fender are the "cheap" American instruments-and am not saying this as a MIA Fender bass owner (only own one MIM). If the Fenders are going up in price, you bet so will everyone else due to the aforementioned inflation.
I have never been a Gibson hater, but those are indeed pricey in relation to Fender American instruments-and also have been going up in price during these times, I believe.
Please do let me know which American made basses are the most affordable right now-it is not a challenge whatsoever, but asking for enlightment.
Everytime I see Korean or Indonesian instruments for more than $1,500-$2,000 from many well-known brands, I get a bit annoyed inside. Of course if the instruments make you happy, spend away! But because of this, I find the "overpriced Fenders" attacks a bit misleading at best.

Right, and if the Indo-Skylines were $1800 (coming someday soon?) no one would wince because Lakland is a small outfit that "needs" to make a profit to "survive". Fender, OTOH, are ruthless shysters out to "make money", instead of acting like some philanthropic nanny company. Fuzzy thinking, anyone?
I think this is the thing to me: there are better basses for $2k than US Fender. Certainly better basses for $1k than MIM Fender basses. Imo Fender hasn't been worth it for a while
It's not new. It's used. Just thought I'd see what folks thought, as a few people mentioned looking for a used Lakland as a decent alternative to a Fender.
Yeah, it's funny. When I think about a new jazz bass, fender is one of the last options I think about. I was in Nashville a few months ago and stopped in to one of the music shops down there. They had an amazing US Lakland J, I think a 44-60. Out played any fender ever and it was priced like mid 2k. I think it was old new stock, but it ripped and man was it tempting. American ultra series couldn't touch it.
Ya well- for costing in the neighborhood of $800 more than an Ultra, it had better be a superior bass than the Fender.
