Fender Purists Probably Won't Like This Idea

I simply want a 24 fret Jazz Bass! It's beyond my comprehension that they havent done that yet. I've been told that the longer neck would throw off the physics of the bass and alter it's inherent sound, but shouldnt that be the consumers choice? Recently I bought a used Ultra just to check one out... waiting on delivery... it will be the first 22 fret neck I've played on since 1980.

Fender has made 24 fret Jazz Bass models.

I have never in my life owned a traditional Precision Bass or Jazz Bass, and I can confidently state that I never will, because I have never liked either of them and never will.

...

And if I can’t get that, then I’ll get a Sandberg California TT5, which is nearly identical, and still almost nothing like a traditional Jazz Bass or Precision Bass.

Different strokes for different folks. I have no Sandbergs, but I do enjoy my pair of Harley Benton Enhanced series basses very much!

But we clearly have different interpretations of the phrase, "almost nothing like". :woot: As a player, I think I understand what you meant, but the average person, I think, would not understand your saying that when the heritage is so apparent visually.

As for Fender's attempt at expanding its market, I applaud their efforts. My Dimension is a really nice bass! And as successful as their oldest designs have been, there is always that part of the market wanting something new and different. I am a boomer but generational preferences aside I think that the traditional J and P will ALWAYS have a place in the music scene. And why not? After all, people still play violins, cellos and double basses!

I don’t get this whole either or thing. I have Fenders and non-Fender FSOs and many non-FSOs, even dare I say two Gibsons.

And on top of that I’m an old fart too!:wideyed:

Buy and play whatever strikes your fancy. If it happens to take away from Fender’s market share and bottom line they’ll adapt and make and sell something that protects they’re turf. But until that happens in a measurable large scale they have really no reason to make those kinds of offerings. They seem perfectly fine with Ibanez pretty much cornering the ‘modern’ look/sound.

How would you feel if Fender went about making a modern looking bass instead of thier traditional body styles, and headstocks. Think something along the lines of their MB4/MB5 design, but with: slight body/headstock modifications, active electronics, quality wood, quality pickups, and hardware. Basically a higher end MIA Model. View attachment 4376640

Looks totally plain and cheap to me. Would not buy.

This is one of Fenders forays into "Modern Looking" Basses, it is a 1990 Fender Jazz Bass Plus V in Blue Burst with Lace PUPs, I have owned it since new (Bought in 1991) and love it, the neck is fantastic and wonderful to play. I had to scrap the Kubicki electronics (About 5 years ago) and went totally passive, I could have probably messed with the electronics a bit but when I went totally passive it opened up the basses low and high end immensely IMHO. Luckily someone on here wanted the Kubicki electronics so they got recycled...
