This is true, but it doesn't necesssarliy mean you personally will like it better. It's always best to try all these in a store first. You may find you like the MIM (or even some other brand altogether) than an American Fender.

well, for me, while, IMO, the MIM's are good basses, i haven't played one yet (and i've worked on and played about 40 of them), that was anywhere near as good as an american one (played and/or worked on 100's of them built from '99 to present). just my opinion.

I have an MIM and it's my main player, but given a bigger budget I probably would've gone American. They're both perfectly serviceable instruments, but the new MIA's have graphite and those fancy new bridges.

There's no simple answer to this. I've played basses I've loved and disliked from both countries. Playing them is the only way to tell.

Better components on the American (tuners, bridge, and graphite reinforced neck). Better fret finishing on the American, plus rolled fingerboard edges. Not sure what frets are on the MIM, but my American has medium jumbo (not necessary, IMO, low ones would be fine for me). Overall, the American is better, IMO. Way more expensive, though.

I played an american precision bass and an american jazz next to their mexican counter parts and determined that the 1000 dollar increase in price could not be justified. I went with a japanese instead.

Depends on the bass. There are great American made Fenders and duds. Same with MIM. Try every one in the store before you buy. One will speak to you.

Road worn are excellent MIM made Fenders. And you can tell by their price. I could easily get a MIA used Fender for the price of new road worn here.

As John said, MIAs are better. MIM's have different pickups and hardware, also no graphite bars. But I have a very nice 2002 MIM jazz and it plays and sounds awesome! my students prefer it over my '95 MIA jazz.
