I have a chance to buy a Fender Road Worn '50s Precision Bass at a good price. I've never seen one or played one. The last one listed in the TB classifieds sold in a few hours.

What makes this bass so great and sought after?

It's a P bass, and it's been beaten up to look "esperienced". It's not Fenders most or least expensive version of the P bass - it's in the middle. If you like the look, and you like P basses, it's a decent instrument/

The Road Worn are like many of recent era Fenders, the wood matching and refined engineering underneath those roughed finishes are down to a near science now and the tones & playability they produce are nicely consistent across makes & models. All that makes for a good value and nice long-term tools to work with.

My road worn precision is as good a bass as my 1966 American-made precision (which I’ve had for 48 years). I don’t take the 1966 out on gigs any more, too valuable and too much sentimental value. My road worn fills the bill for me.

Howdy, I’m only responding because of a “how ‘bout that” moment. I saw this post and I thought, hmmm...Shastaband is an unusual name - oh, you’re in Redding. I’m in Chico. I have a classic 50’s p that I often play out with because...wait for it...I don’t like to take my 66 p out, too valuable. I’ve only had mine for 41 years. Oh, and I play thru a Dr. Bass cabinet! It’s a small world...
