Fender Roadworn Questions/Discussion Thread

nubs said:
it was this very thread that kept my GAS attack on full throttle.....i just couldnt go on TB anymore not wanting one. and even more so....all the relic bashing made me need one even more!!! :bassist:

Yeah, lol the hate for em makes me want it more too, they can all hate all they want, leaves more good ones for the rest of us.

I mean you really can't get mad at the haters, everyone is entitled to their opinions, even of they are painfully misguided and completely wrong.
Not everyone can have great taste in basses.

Poor Fellers will just have to miss out I guess. :D

agreed, never been mad at them...i dont see allot of things through the TB eyes..... for example, i like the relics, i dont think stickers make a bass trashy, thunderbirds dont neck dive, single cut-aways with the top horn growing into the 7th fret are ugly....need i share more!

Lovin' my Roadworn P I recently bought from another TB'er. The one in the foreground. It growls and grunts like a good P should. Light too - 8.2 lbs.

Very glad to see some more Road Worn love! I'm hoping that Fender will take notice and expand the road worn bass offerings. We've been teased with this Nate Mendel roadworn Precision for a while now. And I keep on asking myself why Fender hasn't considered producing a 60's Precision in this line. It seems like such a no-brainer.

Lol, yeah we're definitely the minority around these parts, I think relics look cool (when done well), stickers? Ahh don't care one way or the other, but do I think they ruin a bass? Not at all, Flea's Shell Pink 61 J wouldn't be the same w/o em, Billy Sheehan's wife wouldn't be the same w/o his skater stickers from the early 90's. Have I seen really bad stickers on guitars & basses absolutely, but that doesn't mean it's impossible to be done tastefully.
And yeah those basses with the massive top half are DEFINITELY not my thing. So much so I can't even see how anyone could ever like them, but I guess that's the way relics are looked at by others so it's all just proof that we all have different tastes in everything.

I've had a RW Jazz for about a year now, and have been bragging about it to all my local fellow bass players. Next to my '98 MIA Jazz, it is the best jazz I've ever played. So, finally, one of my bass buddies decides to take the plunge and get one , sunburst , just like mine. I go over to his place to compare them. The finish is a little different in spots, but generally, pretty much looks the same as mine. Then I notice the pickups, and, on his, the A and D string pole pieces are raised, whereas, on mine, they are all flat across the pickup, about level with the cover. Now I'm wondering, how do these come stock ? Mine was a used one, and so was his. Anyone want to chime in that bought a new one ?

While I love my 3TSB Roadworn Jazz bass, I just haven't been able to warm up to the Fiesta Red finish. But seeing that finish with the mint guard? It makes me see that finish in a whole new light. It actually pops out more as a red with the mint pickguard. And it's likely because when you have the stock tort guard on the Fiesta Red version, the red in the tort winds up making you think see the Fiesta Red more like a shade of pink. Whatever the case, I think the mint pickguard looks awesome on your RW Jazz, bassyboyg!
