Fender Roadworn Questions/Discussion Thread

The ultimate vanity is to quote oneself:

Many RW aficionados consider the neck to be one of the major attributes of the line. They have the rolled edges, and "broken in" feel of a much played neck.

To me, the value of the RW precision bass lies in its thinner, lighter body, coupled with the Fender 56003/56004 pickup set. Some people (Ed Friedland among them) claim that the bodies are kiln-dried to be more resonant. Don't know.

I had an audition today with the pro-est group I've ever played with. Both guitar players and the keys player complimented my tone (didn't say *@!% about my chops!)

Ok, so I just got my first Road Worn, and it arrived with my second as well ;) Unfortunately, both necks are bowed forward to the point where neither bass is playable.

Do you have to take the pickguard off the jazz bass to adjust the neck, or do I need to remove the neck? Has anyone just taken a dremel to the pickguard or is there a pickguard maker out there that makes one with a bit of a cut out? Same with the Precision, I need to remove the pickguard?

Finally, righty-tighty to straighten the neck, correct? Left would introduce more front bow? I honestly have not owned or played a Precision since maybe '79, and my last Jazz had a Moses neck which was arrow straight.

Thanks in advance Road Warriors :)

i tool a dremel to my PG. I dont have to time to mess with taking necks off etc when im working .. Easy as pie now
On the RW.. Righty Tighty is correct.
I usually apply a slight pressure at the headstock if i am tightening so i dont put all of the pressure of torquing on the Truss Adjust nut itself

No need to remove the neck, the pick guard, or whip out the dremel tool, though a little niche on the Jazz pick guard might help. With the P-bass aluminum pick guard, that won't work.

Assuming you want LESS relief, the truss rod can be tightened by angling any medium flat blade screwdriver into the truss nut (Righty Tighty, Lefty Loosie).

Lay the bass down on a towel, take the tension off the strings, and by holding the screwdriver at ~30 degree angle from horizontal, gently tighten the truss rod adjuster 1/2 turn of so. You will need to reposition the screwdriver in the truss nut slots a couple of times. Retune the strings, adjust the action, and give the pick-ups a tweak, if needed. Wait 12 hours and tweak the bridge again. Repeat as needed.

I bought one of each .. A Roadworn Jazz and a Roadworn P bass for when i travel overseas. My Alleva Coppolo kbp4 is too personal/ Its P with a J neck.
A few weeks ago i swapped necks on my RW basses....
I pulled the neck from the J and put it on my P body.. Perfect fit.. Bass sounds different . They sounded great stock from the factory...But i still like a j neck on a P body at times...
Im going to leave it like this for a while.. Some pics from today//

I'm looking to replace the pickguard on my Fiesta Red Road Worn with a reasonably priced mint green guard.
Anybody knows a good source aside from WD?
