Fender Rumble Club

I'm think of buying some 8 ohm neo 10"s and dropping the load to
4 ohms to get the full 500 watts
and lose about 5 or 6 pounds in weight of the amp. Has anybody tried this?

So you're saying a speaker swap could bring out the full 500w with out having to use an extension cab? Sounds interesting. I'm thinking about grabbing the 500 combo and I want to get as much out of it as possible without having to lug another speaker to gigs.
Would the 500 combo by itself handle small, medium bars and halls well?

It's a 4 ohm amp but internally its 8 ohms (probably 2 - 16 ohm speakers in parallel) giving you 350 watts. 2 8 ohm speakers in parallel would give you 500 watts but you could no longer use an extension cabinet with the amp
Plus you would be wise to disconnect the extension speaker jack as a failsafe. Of course you would also be voiding your warranty.

There also seems to be an idea here that you can just swap in a random Eminence Neo driver, and automatically get as good or better sound.

This is not the case. Each driver is designed for a specific application, box size and port tuning. The wrong tuning can drastically reduce the power handling of a driver, risking damage, and also have a negative impact on tone.

Anyone wishing to do driver swaps needs to work with someone who has cab modelling software, AND a good understanding of what the numbers mean. Then they could come up with recommended port sizes, in order to adapt the box for the new drivers.

I owned a music store for 25 years and was a fender and peavey dealer for all of them. I probably swapped speakers in cabinets a couple of hundred times. In general terms all 10" bass speakers are pretty similar and the main differences being power handling and choice of impedance. I could stick any matched pair of good quality 10's in the fender and the amp would sound great.

Anybody thats played through both v2 and v3 whats are the main differences? Anyone prefer v2?

My local fender dealer has a backstock of v2 so wont be getting v3 in anytime soon.

In the market for a combo and was looking at the v3 (probs 12 or 15").

That will be a pretty lengthy post! I've posted a few 'Rumble Talks' here in the Rumble Club; one compared and contrasted the four band EQ sections of all three versions, and another discussing Fender's unique Delta-Comp Limiter along with the new 'Vintage' voicing and new Overdrive design. So look for those.

The V2 Fender Rumble 150 1x15 Combo is the one that really put Rumble in the spotlight as the very best selling value priced bass combo in existance with the Rumble 350 combo coming in a close second. They both shared the sonically excellent front slot ported SWR cabinet designs from the 'Black Beauty' and 'Redhead' respectively. The Rumble 150 & 350 were also the first Rumbles to use D-class ICEPower sections.

New V3's from the Rumble 40 on up through the flagship 500 are all D-class ICEPower, and they all share the very same pre-amp/front end. They are all manufactured in Indonesia. Rumble 100 and up woofers are all Eminence branded made in China. The "Fender Special Design" woofers are widely suspicioned to also be made by Eminence. V3's are made of much lighter plywood (except 15 & 25) instead of much heavier MDF, and are new smaller front ported designs. The 200 & 500 combos have powered extension speaker output jacks where the 150 & 350 combos did not as their internal speaker load was already at an optimal 4 ohms.

The V2 Rumble 150 combo sold for $350 shipped from all major e-tailers for years. One Rumble Club member picked up a brand new 150 combo on a closeout special for $150. GC is showing used Rumble 150 combos in the $200 range.
The new V3 Rumble 200 combo is $400 shipped and; smaller in physical size & about 25 lbs. lighter than the 150 combo, and LOUDER.

Tone wise I've found that V2 & V3 Rumbles to be quite simular if no shape/voicing filters are engaged, and sound very much like a 1970's silverfaced Bassman 100 dialed into a squeaky clean jazz mode. Very round; rich, and full. The Rumbles offer far more tonal versatility and quicker transient response.

Count me in... Rumble 200 head into one or a pair of home brew 112 cabs. Only complaint: The TINY feet on the head seem to be made only to fit in the pockets on the Rumble cabs and don't clear the low-profile handles on my cabs... Replacing the feet is not an option due to the insanely tiny screws used to secure them! Looks like I'll be scouting out some stick ons...

Sound and volume-wise, I've no complaints whatsoever!!

24 hours after rehearsals and reporting in on the Rumble 200 combo (loaner amp).
Up against two loud guitarists and a heavy drummer! It coped. It's sounded good and was liked by all band members. And they loved the retro looks as it fits in with our look. Old. Nice and light too, bass in one hand amp in the other!
They and I liked the vast amount of sounds I got from it, from muddy tones to clean to overdriven and gritty. We do play a lot of old stuff like Cream, Small Faces, The Who, 70's punk and 90's Brit Pop. The vintage button is cool too! Takes a bit of time remembering where your setting were set each time but you soon get there. Well worth the money.
Boom.
There you go a small review for a little amp in a big band.
Can't wait to get my mitts on MY Rumble 500 and completely blow em away.

Stay cool wontcha!
